OpenFlash tuners?
I would like to go the route of the OpenFlash model, but I don't feel comfortable with tuning myself ( I mainly want to get away from the being beholden to one specific tuner and not seeing the file). I have a few questions actually.
1) Are there any professional tuners that currently do remote tunes or will be offering the service for OpenFlash? 2) Anyone on the forum offering Etunes? 3) Can ECUtek tunes be flashed with this tablet. (Can I go with a reputable tuner that is using ECUtek's RaceROM program to tune.) I plan on going for a FlexFuel from FA20Club, I just don't want the ECUtek headache In other words, I need FlexFuel tuning in my life and I haven't seen that available yet.

If your plan is to use FA20Club for tuning, then why not ask them directly if they'll tune with OpenFlash?
As for your other questions: 1. The only tuner I'm aware of currently is Vishnu once they get the data logging feature enabled. I'm sure any reputable tuner could remote tune as long as you have logs. 2. You'd have to ask them, but honestly I don't see why not. They're basically tuning the same tables, just the delivery method to get those modified tables is different. 3. No. Ecutek tunes are locked and require a license be installed on your ECU. As for an Ecutek tuner, you would have to ask them. . .see answer to 2 above. |

I wasn't set on any specific tuner for FlexFuel setup, was just wondering if it was possible after I ordered their hardware. And thanks for the heads up, I haven't been able to read through all the posts about the tablet and tuning yet because I've been busy so I was looking to others who have done all the leg work to spoon feed me

FlexFuel on the OpenFlash is not currently supported. That's a custom feature that EcuTek patched into their roms. It will likely be a while before any of the open tunes reach parity (if at all). If you want that, you are pretty much stuck with EcuTek for now.

Or, just buy the OpenFlash tablet, and purchase flex fuel kit later down the road. I don't see any issue with getting that to work and @shiv@vishnu has mentioned multiple times they will be looking towards e85 support.
I think the OpenFlash is just really new right now but with enough people adopting it could really take off. I'm sure they will eventually offer this functionality and if not there's other ways to edit an OpenFlash tune (such as EcuFlash and BRZEdit) worse case scenario. I highly recommend not to go with Ecutek, personally. I've seen open tools & platforms really propel the software industry forward, and honestly vendor lock in, DRM, and encryption, are the ways of the past and will eventually fade away. Do you really want to pay for a product that limits your rights over the tune? |

If you are naturally aspirated, I suggest saving your money and just running the baseline map. There really isn't much to be gained through custom tuning unless you are supercharged or turbocharged. Without boost, there is only so much air that these engines will flow. Some Ecutek tunes can be flashed via Tablet. But it is not recommended. Hope that helps Last edited by Shiv@Openflash; 10-03-2013 at 11:51 AM. |

It's good to have you on board. I had nothing but positive and pleasant experience with your tunes on my 135i. Still my car holds the record for the fastest N54 with stock turbos in this part of the world Having u in this society is truly a great asset. Can't wait to see what u can offer

Sounds like they found headers to not be worthwhile upgrades, at least that's what I'm reading ?

I'm waiting on purchasing I/H/E before my tune, and on E85 I'm hoping to be somewhere around 205-210whp. I'm pretty sure 40hp over stock is a significant upgrade on N/A. boost will come in the future, but I'm not worried about it just yet. Your OTS maps are not aggressive enough for me. I'm sure that your tuning prowess could get me where I wanted to be, but I just don't agree that your base maps are where I should stop. I always view base maps as just that, a place to begin your tuning experience.
and if the mythical unicorn of a header finally shows up from Nameless, those numbers are going to be cake walk to achieve, I've already got my flame suit on.

Ooops... I didn't mean that. I forgot that I didn't post up stage2 maps yet. They are currently being beta tested by a couple people. And I just did a 600 mile 2 day trip with it loaded in my car. Once they get the go ahead from the testers, I'll post then up. They are intended for those with headers (and additional exhaust mods). Catless headers do indeed make a difference and are a very worthwhile upgrade. With a full bolt-on car (header back) expect around 190whp. On e85, quite a bit more. Should know soon

Hey Shiv. Once upon a time you tuned my MSM Miata Turbo racecar at the UC and Danville locations.
I now have a BRZ street car. I plan to come get an open flash tablet. I only have a cat-back exhaust. Is stage 1 is right for me?

To answer your question, yes the stage 1 map is for you and you can certainly come by the Danville office to pick up a OFT and get a complementary installation if you have 10 minutes to spare. Glad to see you with a brz... Seems like a logical move from the MSM. Just needs more power! |
