All-New 2022 Subaru BRZ Makes Global Debut

On my 2017, the PP is such a value that I just straight up won't buy one without it. They look great, they perform great, and brake squeal just means they are working.


I'm also concerned about the replace-ability of that headunit and whether doing so would remove the engine.mp3 bs.

I will happily admit the Brembos look great on the car! As a daily driver it is probably more break than I need so it's not a deal breaker when considering the next gen.

Everybody, 2013-2016: FT86 is great, but it could use more power!
Subaru, 2017: How about +5hp and big Brembo brakes!
Subaru, 2021: OK, here's another 23hp, but no more big brakes...

I got the PP primarily for easy pad swaps at the track. I *hate* pad swaps with sliding calipers... But honestly the car's looks are hugely improved with the giant rotors and big red calipers! Kinda hard for me to look at the standard brakes on the '22...

There is still the chance they will still offer a performance pack with the optional brembos. It would be unusual to offer it on outgoing models then ditch it for the next gen.

I’m sure Subaru will offer a Performance Pack on the 2nd gen BRZ, and Toyota will probably do the same. I really hope so anyway, because I want it.

Stupid question, but if the Power Pack wasn't on offer for the first gen wouldn't an upgrade to the pads and discs be fine for street use?

Where the stock brakes lacking for track use and fine for the street, I guess is what I'm asking?

Standard brakes worked fine for the street.

Stock calipers with upgraded pads (Project Mu 800+) and DOT4 fluid worked good for street and track.

Cannot vouch for long sessions though.

Stock brakes are not an issue at all on the street, and fine at the track for shorter sessions with appropriate pads and fluid as @wbradley sez ^^^ Friend/competitor in a '13 has complained about keeping them cool for longer sessions though, and I'm sure his pad wear rate is greater vs. the big Brembos. Also feel is better with the fixed calipers and larger-diameter rotors.

I thought it was a bit hilarious at the time for them to offer bigger brakes on a car that didn't really *need* them. For the 3-lap time-trials I compete in, I don't think they give an advantage but they are penalized 40 lb. vs. non-Brembo FT86s. I still went with them for ease of pad swaps. And because they look so cool... Hoping to see this option on the '22+.

TBH the squeal is only on slow approach to red lights and stop signs and I do give them a good firm press when enjoying the back roads which does eliminate the squeal for a time. Really only noticed it last week and it just irked me at that time.

Back to the topic of this new Gen, Having to deal with some insane cold months I’ve come across issues
with radio and high quality camera displays going blank or loosing some info on their displays on those
chilly cold mornings -20C or more., Never having a digital dash I wonder if this issue is a concern, will it
arise with the new digital metering?

The PP BRZ has only been out since 2016. Approaching 5 years.

If Subaru wants to milk numbers especially for repeat BRZ owners it makes sense to let the excited buyers buy the 1st or 2nd model years without the PP and then release it so that it targets not only previous 17-20 PP owners, but also the 22-23 non-PP owners.

It’s obviously a strategic approach but should work very well.

On paper the 2nd-Gen BRZ is very fascinating. I want to hear that it is as good or even better than an S2000 but there’s so many variables. Can’t wait for the driving impressions and to drive one myself.
