Pull the engine out and fix it.

Also when you have the engine out you may want to install your top-hats correct. Not sure what ones you have but they appear to be clocked wrong.

I think I've already accepted the fact that it's toast at this point... Now I'm looking around for used FA20s in case I need to source one... Haven't found any

I'm pretty sure you can't see the top hats in the video I posted... I think you may be confusing my video with the Youtube video I linked in my first post? As for pulling the engine out, it's inevitable. Time to roll up the sleeves I guess

Just a conclusion from Op’s info about where he has his Shift light set quite low, If he is actually shifting at that point places the next gear quite low… Gearing 101!

I shift at 2500 rpm when the engine is cold with no lugging. At least in the first couple gears. It's not just RPM its load.

Anywho the OP ended up saying 3900 rpm.

Good lesson to be learned here, enjoy things rather than try to preserve em. I remember my old plasma TV i would keep the brightness down to half to keep things from burning in. And one day the motherboard fried randomly. Shoulda just enjoyed it while it was good.

Spun Rod Bearing?

I didn't realize how horrible that video was until I just took a look at it, I apologize. I'll try to take another one outdoors later today. As for the last thing I did mechanically, back in March 2020 I installed Tein Street Basis Z coilovers, nothing else has been done to the car since except swap winter tires in October.

I'll do an oil change this weekend and see what I find. Also, car has never been tracked. As far as aggressive driving goes, I'll do the occasional hard pull on the highway once in a blue moon. Other than that, I'm pretty conservative with my driving as I try to make a tank of gas last me for two weeks before having to go to the gas station. I try to never shift past 2900rpm, its where I set my shift light to go off.

This is for sure NOT rod knock. It’s way to fast. Do you have an auto? Maybe it’s the vacuum pump?

I don’t know, maybe it is, it’s hard to tell how high you are reving in the video.

This is exactly how I feel about the situation at the moment. I drove the car very conservatively for the past 5 years I've owned it, occasionally had a bit of fun on snowy days but apart from that, in hindsight, I wish I had enjoyed the car a bit more. I feel like if this could have happened to me, it could have happened to anyone.

I will try to upload a better video sometime soon, this video was taken in an underground parking lot at my workplace, so a lot of echoes and reverberation. It's a manual, in the video the knocking sound started at 2000 rpm and I didn't go past 3000 rpm.

I checked my oil today, I didn't see anything in it that stood out. The dip stick indicated it was on the low side however, just a bit over the bottom hole on the stick.

I took two videos today, hopefully you can hear the noise a bit better. The first video is light revving between 2000 and 3000 rpm:

The second video is more aggressive revving:

I have a service appointment with Toyota tomorrow morning. I'll update later with their findings.

That is some intense knocking. The bearing must be entirely pounded out to be that noisy. I find it really strange nothing is in the oil. Did you simply pull the stick to check for material or did you drain the oil? If you only pulled the stick then you probably will not see anything. If you drained the oil and nothing came out then I’d say it’s not a bearing. Maybe an ejected rocker or something. If the oil was just over the bottom dot then you aren’t low enough to cause issues. The bottom dot marks the 1qt low mark. It’s not great to be almost a qt low but it’s not automatic spun bearing territory.

What year is your car?

Also, don’t do anymore revving of the engine or driving until you figure out what it is.

If it ejected a rocker it will not have oil pressure.

That is knocking, hard. You need a new engine (used or rebuild that one).
