Eric's BRZ - A motorsports engineers perspective

My name is Eric, and I am located in Phoenix, AZ. Moved out here recently since graduating with my bachelor's in mechanical engineering and certificate in motorsports. I've worked for Indy Car and now currently work for C&R Racing as a design engineer and salesman. I design small things with engineering buddies on the side for fun but progress comes slow .

First night I received shipment thanks to Clint @ Heuberger.

Splitter designed and built. It now completely reduces the effects of lift at 100mph and creates downforce, a very good thing.

CFD and FEA on splitter showing downforce at 100 MPH.

Next up is an air oil separator that features an actual filtering element. No steel wool, meshed screens, or only baffling here. This filter is capable of flowing 47 SCFM at 100psig, way more than needed.

From there, I'm not sure where I will go...

Project Car:
93 MR2 Turbo - Heavily modified, everything designed and built by myself. It is a money pit x's 100!

Past Car:
Evo 8.5 - 360 awhp DD before the BRZ

GSX-R 750 - I need another bike

Hopefully more parts to go on this car soon, but it is the DD so its hard to justify. Plus its amazingly fun to drive, even though it feels under powered.

Aren't they very very similar? I looked under one at the mall the other day and it looked the same. I guess I just need to find a local frs to try it on!

Looks great! I work as an automotive engineer up in Canada. How did you determine the mounting hole locations for the splitter? Do you have a CAD model of the car or did you just measure it? And what material are you making it out of now?

I've been looking for a CAD model for a while now with no luck of finding one that won't cost me $100 bucks.

Haha, yes Jesse, us engineers are messed up in the head. I need to stop by your shop someday, you guys build some nice looking manifolds.

We have a cad model but nothing accurate enough to get mounting holes. Those were all measured by hand and refined through revisions. The cad model was used to get the basic shape of the splitter. We had to pay for the model unfortunately.

Hopefully I'll start breaking the welder out for new parts soon, just been swamped with work.

So when is the C&R radiator going to be out for the BRZ?

We have already built a few for race teams, the issue is pricing.

I want to build a stock replacing radiator with a heat exchanger (engine oil cooler) in the drivers side end tank. The issue is, with two fans and a direct bolt in component, you're looking at over $1,500 or more for the whole unit. Don't get me wrong, it will look amazing and cool just as well as it looks, but not many people are willing to spend that dime, even when they're over heating. If the right company wants to pursue this, by all means contact me at erich@crracing.com. I haven't pursued it for this exact reason... (THIS IS NOT ADVERTISING!!! This is my own thread not a thread for C&R Racing!)

When the time comes to turbo my car, which it will, I will likely be going through work to buy the set-up explained above. At that point I may try to see if a group buy is possible, but I am not remotely close to that point yet.

Many owners have been willing to spend $900 on a radiator and oil cooler solution. I would think plenty would be willing to spend the extra $600 to get the C&R name.

Time will tell. Thanks for the vote though. Not many people know of C&R Racing in the aftermarket world.
