i saw a post somewhere where the hyperflashing was affected by sunlight onto the headlight. The thought was that the LEDs are acting like a tiny solar panel (diodes can do this) and creating a small voltage across them that makes the controller think the resistance dropped so it hyperflashes.

Wish i could remember where this was, maybe the GR86 subreddit?

Asked ChatGPT if direct sunlight can reverse voltage on an LED:
Direct sunlight can act as a reverse voltage for an LED if the LED is kept in reverse bias condition. This means that the positive terminal of the power source is connected to the cathode (negative) of the LED and vice versa1. In this case, sunlight can generate a small current in the opposite direction of the power source1. This is similar to how a solar cell works2.

However, most LEDs have a low reverse breakdown voltage, which means they can be damaged by an applied reverse voltage above this threshold3. The reverse breakdown voltage of an LED is typically around 5 V2. Therefore, it is not advisable to expose an LED to direct sunlight when it is in reverse bias condition.

To protect an LED from reverse voltage damage, you can use a regular diode or another LED in parallel with it in the reverse direction. This will limit the reverse voltage across the LED to about 0.65 V or 1.2 V respectively4.

I'm not sure sunlight is the problem. Before I figured out how to toggle the blinkers without causing the hyperflash, I could get mine to hyperflash in the dark.

In my experience hyperflash has nothing to do with sunlight and everything with outside temperatures. For me it only happened in the winter and when its gets real cold outside. I don't think I ever had it happen in the summer.

Another culprit could be moisture, I don't have 100% proof but washing the car might affect it too. For some reason many modern cars have issues with condensation inside the headlights and BRZ seems to have that problem too. When I wash the car in the winter and the next day is real cold I notice frost on the inside of the headlight and sometimes I get hyperflashing.

GR86DOTorg members have fixed the hyper flash with vinyl overlays. Not ideal but it works.

Well, someone says this exists. New part numbers for the rear lights.

Almost 1 year of ownership. 2022 Brought home 5/5/2022 Build Date 4/2022.
At around 1800 Miles, the passenger rear sway bar bushing fell off the bracket. Lucky for me I found it under the car on the parking lot.

Kind of weird for being a brand new car. I got under there and reinstalled the bushing. Another 500 miles or so and I can hear a small clunking sound. I look under there and the bushing is 3/4 of the way off and i was able to easily pull it out.

Took it to Subaru and they reinstalled it and they mentioned that it may have been a factory torqueing issue. They retorqued the sway bar and end links. 200 or so miles later, it came off again and this time i took it to them without the bushing since im sure it fell off on the highway.

Of course, the part is unavailable due to shortages and now i have to wait and NOT drive the car for over a month since they ordered the part.

March 6th is the appointment and we shall see if the new bushing will stick.

Thought Id share. Miles on the car now is 2800ish

that's wild, do these cars not have a lip around the edge of the sway bar bushing to keep it retained?

The car will drive perfectly fine without the RSB.

Correct. I even did an autocross event without one just to see what it was like.

I've been running without the RSB since last May; 10 HPDE weekends so far.
