Good luck with that, they want to be at the cutting edge and like it or not the electronics aren't going away. Formula1 management wants to appear as eco friendly in this day and age and this technology helps them to check that box. Even if that means the cars sound like farting ducks that look like dildos rather than the awesome NA high revving engines of yesterday.

Ha, the only time Bernie gives money away is to grease a deal or to stay out of jail.

I you drive to the track and park, for a whopping $200, at 18 cars you are paying $11.11 per car to see them and 19 cars is $10.52. How much is beer and food at this track? How do they justify $200 for parking? That just frosts my ass like no tomorrow. Maybe they are trying to promote public transportation??

On top of your race ticket that is..........

Probably. Elroy Road is pretty much hopeless and there will always be a major traffic jam. The more people that ride the bus, the better, IMO.

I bought tickets to the Austin Formula 1 race for $200. It was a bit much for my budget, but I figured I should watch at least one Formula 1 race in my life.

I didn't know about parking.
Oh God, what did I do to deserve

I'm there with ya.

The first year they were at COTA I bought tickets the day they went on sale, ~$300/each and then it came closer to the date and we looked at airfair, hotels, parking, etc etc and promptly sold the tickets.

Who knew that $600 in tickets was the cheapest part. I was at the USGP in 2005 and I felt F1 treated their American fans very poorly that year so I'm not in a hurry to drop $3-5k on a F1 weekend unless I'm in another country doing so.

I don't know, I think there are ways to do it if you look in the right places at the right time.

I'm coming from Florida. And even though this isn't exactly what I'm doing because I'm flying into Dallas to meet a friend first who set up the accommodations, I could have...

Tickets: $300
Flight (FLL>AUS): ~350 on Southwest Thursday in, Monday out. Friday and Sunday would have been even cheaper.
Housing: I think it's around 400 for three nights for a private cottage on AirBNB, split by three people. Could have gotten just a room for less.
Parking: Honestly not sure what we are doing yet. Pretty sure we're going to be doing some kind of public trans/shuttle in parking, so not a $200 option.

That's just under $1k for a fly in before food/parking/etc. Of course flights and hotel stays are going to be more than the tickets. I think you should realize that before planning the trip.

Luckily I live in Austin, so I'm shooting to be under $300 for the Sunday race after it's all said and done.

Garage
I got pretty lucky with this one. I bought 4 3-day passes to cover myself and my girlfriend, plus by buddy (who's letting us stay with him so I don't have to pay for hotel) and his girlfriend. My cousin works for Southwest so she got us tickets to and from Austin. So all I paid for was the tickets (785ish) and a rental car (300ish). My buddy who I'm staying with has a friend who runs one of the parking lots and thinks he might be able to get us in without the $200 charge but if not, we'll take public transport.

Did you guys get grandstand seating or general admission? If GA where do you plan on hanging out? I hear turn 15 area is good and also at the tip of turn 1 has pretty good views too

First practice shows to be on NBCSN from 12:30-2:00 and another from 3:00-4:30 per DirecTV guide. Another online listing I saw did not show the 12:30 one, only the 3:00 one, so not sure which is correct.

Schedule from COTA has first practice at 10:00-11:30, which would be 11:00-12:30 EST, so first practice is taped delayed. Second practice is 2:00-3:30 which is 3:00-4:30 EST which means this one will be live on Eastern Time.

NBC Sports has a link for live streaming for practice.

Qualifying will only cut 4 cars in Q1 and 4 in Q2 leaving 10 for pole run tomorrow.

Track has some damp spots, not many going hammer down right now.

Track drying, times up about 9 seconds from first cars on track at 10.
