Top Gear Crashes Helicopter During Filming of "Top Gear Korea" Episode

Just saw this on MSN... Top Gear crashed a helicopter today while filming a sequence with a new vett for an upcoming "Top Gear Korea" Episode... man hope no body was seriously injured.

Not sure how to insert this without the commercial before hand???

Just to clarify, this was for filming of "Top Gear Korea" as in "Top Gear USA", not an episode for Top Gear UK that was taking place in Korea. The presenter driving the ZR1 was Kim Jin Pyo.

Wow.. vid says no serious injuries? Very lucky if that's the case. Usually when a helo goes down its not pretty.

That's crazy, but looks like he was coming in for a landing, good thing he was close to the ground already!

Update: Commenter RaceShotsResource knows the pilot, here's some insider perspective:

I love all these comments about Pilot Error... just goes to show a bunch of idiots making assumptions without the first one asking what really happened or anyone posting the truth.

So here it is... The Pilot who is a dear friend of mine and has a Masters in Aeronautics is no dummy who makes mistakes. He flies for the new TV show "The Following" starring Kevin Bacon. The accident was caused by a faulty flight control part known as a servo. This part controls the pitch mechanism of the rotor's control which is why the helicopter made the turn it did.

hope everyone is ok. Never knew they had one for Korea.

Which leads me to a question, why is Top Gear US so...how do I say this nicely...homely?

Lack of talent and budget. Top Gear UK employs much larger staff, spends ridiculous amounts of time lighting the car glamour shots, and spend full days on track shots that last a few minutes on film. Keep a minds eye on what you're seeing. All those shots inside cut to outside shots? Don't see a camera attached to the car in the outside shots, which means they are edited from two or more entirely different takes. And that's just getting started...

Also, keep in mind they use a TON of camera filters and know which to use when. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the same camera talent is shared across all BBC productions. Reasons why the Planet Earth series was so unbelievably breathtaking. Sure, you could just shoot the ridge, but wouldnt it look better at just the right time of day, with just the right gradual filter, edited to just the right music? Same concept. History channel ain't BBC2...There just isn't the financial support here in the states.

Oh, and that wont change as long as the presenters here continue to be so far behind the UK in personal chemistry. Which makes TOP GEAR UK, the best car show... in the wuuuurld.

But thats just my opinion. :-)
