Replacing valve cover gaskets

Hey guys,

I have a 2015 Scion FRS pushing right under 90k miles. I'm the third owner.

I just found out that my right side valve cover is leaking oil and dripping onto my exhaust. While I'm in there, I'm going to do the spark plugs, both valve cover gaskets and I'm not sure if there is anything else I should look into engine wise.

I am also most likely going to buy a used transmission because I've started having issues with 4, 5 and 6 gears (synchros I think, there were issues when I bought the car, but they have gotten considerably worse). I bought a short throw shifter a while back, so while I am in there I was going to change out the shifter, shift springs, clutch fork, clutch fork pivot, shift spring and TOB. Is there anything else that I should look into?

While you are in there, you might consider replacing the clutch and pressure plate -

Hey there humfrz 😄 the clutch was changed about 2 years ago right before I bought the car from the previous owner! I do plan on eventually supercharging it but that's a few years down the line. I figured I'd do the clutch upgrade then, thoughts?

I agree with @humfrz, but with the additional recommendation of a heavier-duty clutch NOW while you have it all apart, since you're boosting later on down the line. This simply saves you time and work in the long run. It will not affect the performance of the engine or transmission now, but you'll be all set and ready to go after you've installed the supercharger.

Okay, that makes perfect sense. Is there a specific clutch kit that you guys would recommend?

I don't have one to recommend but will say that you should probably stay away from the ACT clutch. There have been many, many issues reported with them on here. Of course some were fine as well but the weight of evidence says there are more issues than not.

Try fluid before you go buy a used tranny. I run Redline in my tranny and have zero issues. Good luck.

That was my FIRST go to 😭😭😭 I've changed the fluid twice now and the problem has only gotten worse ☹️

Haha yup, it's going to be low boost for sure. I'm not looking to make 350whp or anything �� And I'll check compression and leaks prior to SC �� If it blows, it blows lmao

Make sure your clutch pedal is adjusted properly. Some will adjust the height which can cause shift issues when done incorrectly.

just make sure that your TOB is the most updated part #. Also use the correct spec lube for that TOB
