I like to heat a cup of milk and make instant coffee and then read until my wife wakes up. Can’t stay up late to save my life. Been waking up early for factory labor since I was eighteen. Still can’t stay up past 11:00pm or sleep-in later than about 6 even though my schedule is now my own.

Thatís certainly the case for me. Iíve been conditioned by 20 years in the industry. But as long as I have some kind of coffee to sip on and something to read I tend to enjoy leisurely mornings. On weekends I usually do stovetop espresso and steamed milk because I wake up so much earlier than my wife, who has a relatively normal health care (nuclear technologist) job. Iíve been indulging more lately in seasonal chocolates to go with my coffee, so thatís been fun.

I worked nights for a couple of decades and then had to switch to days. It literally took me a few years to get used to it and not drag my arse to work. Now I rarely sleep past 5:30

I actually look forward to my short drive into work in the morning. I wake up at 4am and I'm at work by 4:45am. It's always dark and the roads are empty. I eat breakfast at work. COVID didn't affect me too much as my work is deemed 'essential' (defense), and I'm still going in about half the time, and then working from home the other half. When I'm working from home, I look forward to sleeping in and waking up without the alarm clock, which is usually before 6am.

I think that some of use have a natural clock. I like to go to bed at a couple O clock in the morning and not have to get up before the crack of 10.
Lived my whole life running on someone else clock.
Sent to boarding school and had to get up at 6, it was hell for me. Got home and my mother would have me tested for sleeping sickness.
Got a second shift job, that worked.
Collage was alright as i picked classes after 10 AM.
Work was hard again as i had to be there by 7:30.
Ran a R&D shop so working late was smiled upon.
Kept a note pad by the bed as some how i was able to work out problems at night. Clamed i did my best work in bed.
My father was a colonel and seldom missed a sunrise.
Now in retirement I still have a hard time getting up at 8:30.
People keep telling me it will be easier as old people need less sleep, I am still waiting.

I always had a hard time waking up in the morning as well, unless I have to go to work. I work shift rotation, usually 2 days followed by 3 nights or the opposite (Police Officer). It really messes up your system and no wonder why people in law enforcement tend to have shorter lives.

On my days off, and especially during COVID, I have a hard time finding some sense of purpose. I completely renovated my house so this big 3 year project is done. I am getting a puppy in the coming days, so that should help to get me out of bed.

I am more of a night owl so I tend to go to bed way past midnight on my off days. I also prefer night shifts to day shifts for some reason, most likely because there is much less drama.

I find a shower and a cup of coffee in the morning really helps. And gym before night shifts.

Shift work is no good for a variety of reasons. Black out shades are worth the investment. Did several years of shift work in the mil and I'm just glad I'm done with it.
