Not understanding this...wouldn't the performance gap between the MT and AT matter more if you are looking to stay stock? I could see this argument if you are going FI, where difference between the MT and AT in stock trim is basically erased. But if you are staying stock, I would think that would make the MT even more desirable

If you're planning on staying stock the MT argument holds more sway..But if you care about performance issues in THIS car, why on earth would you be staying stock?

The auto trans can handle more power without modding or replacing it. How much does it cost to upgrade the clutch?

It seems that the people who argue about mt superiority are really just afraid that they'll disappear...lol There's a good reason for that. They are inferior, they are inferior in a straight line and they are inferior in other driving as well.

Granted the true super cars that are autos have manual gears with dual clutched or sequential dog gears that don't require a clutch to shift, but they are still autos in that there isn't an extra peddle, which is really what you're talking about.

The only downside to our autos is no launch control and needing to upgrade the torque converter to be able to launch decently.

Also, you don't have to worry about missing a gear...

Jaden

p.s. as far as the op is concerned, I agree with many, it's a pretty silly reason to get an auto if you really want a manual.
This post is all over the place.

Ever since SUV's/crossovers got turbos, there's really no reason to own a sports car.

In this case, the "well the stock auto is slower than the manual" does apply because it's a fact when comparing these cars AT to MT.

Then you go to ask how much it costs to upgrade a clutch when you're comparing it to a transmission, as if the cost difference is astronomical/relate-able in the sense that they are the same parts???

I can't continue to reply to the remainder of your post, I really got lost in what you were trying to say.

Probably because you're lost in your "MT better than AT"( read that in caveman speak) head space...

Oh jesus this again? It isn't about superiority.. it's about fun factor. Repeat after me slowly. Fuuuuuuunnnn faaaactoooorrr!! If you think button pressing is more fun than a manual then you clearly don't know how to drive a manual. There is more to a manual then simply upshifting through the gears. If you don't understand that then I'm sorry.

Ever since in vitro implantation there's no need to have dirty-sweaty sex either. But yet people still go through the motion to have a baby.

It's all personal preference. Who cares who drive what? I just don't get it. Nothing is superior than other. As long as AT drivers like their AT and MT drivers like their MT that's it. Is that simple. Can we please stop this argument already?

This really is a good comparison. The manual method is way more fun and cheaper at the same time. Win win.

Hahaha

If you truly "know how to drive a manual" it isn't much more fun than paddle shifters. I can drive for hours and not even remember shifting once much less get any fun out of it. It just becomes the norm and routine like any other task. It is only more fun when it is different or new. Not sure what the fun factor of pushing an extra pedal in is really.

I actually need to think more when I drive the FRS after I drive my MT MR2 for a while. Double footing the brake pedal sure does wake you up first thing on your way to work though.

Downshifting with proper rev matching, heel toe braking... on and on. I've been driving manuals for 20+ years. Nothing mondain about it. Like I said before.. if you only shift up through the gears like a good boy then yeah it becomes mondain. But there is more to it than that. If that really was all there was to it then I would be driving autos myself because then it would be all about shifting speed and obviously the auto wins there.
