2019 around 15k miles, 93 octane, and I get crickets. You can hear it if you stand in front of the car, but it's not obnoxious. But I mean what do you expect? It's a car. It makes noises.

I realize you likely have some different gas stations in Puerto Rico than I may have in Florida, but which ones make it chirp vs. which ones don’t make it chirp for curiosities sake?

So it does have some difference, and from what others have said the additives in the fuel might be more important than octane. When it comes to silencing the crickets. I swear as soon as the gas stations around here start switching to “winter” fuel the crickets start chirping. And I’ve had much better luck with Top Tier fuel. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I agree, the twins aren’t meant to be a Rolls Royce. Still, the fuel pump can get loud on the twins. Almost to the point of being distracting. But I love the heck out of my car. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

yeah it took a while to get used to the tractor sounds that this engine makes. I hardly notice them now.

In short; I believe is the ethanol that makes the pump chirp, but that's me with my own experience. |

I need to become friends with a fuel tester in my area! That is very interesting stuff! I’ve always wondered how good the QC was for gasoline octane levels and additives. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Running a 2013 FRS. I've tried every fuel type under the sun. Some are far worse with chirping after emptying the tank and trying something else. Some are very moderate, some are very light with chirps but absolute none really got rid of them entirely.
ethanol content % didn't matter. E0 didn't matter. It chirps no matter what. |

95-10 (equivalent to US 91 w/ max 10% ethanol) make the pump chirp 95-5 (same with max 5% ethanol) does too, possibly to a lesser extent 98-5 (equivalent to US 93-94, w/ max 5% ethanol) doesn't at all, no matter the brand Consensus is that the higher ethanol content causes the pump to chirp. It's one of the things that kept me away from an E85 conversion. Also, I saw or felt no performance difference whatsoever between any of these fuels. Car's stock and is a daily, YMMV (literally & figuratively) if you track a modded car. |

Call it the European consensus then, our fuels may be a little more tightly regulated as far as Ethanol content, and since they're quite taxed, fuel providers probably try to cram as much Ethanol as they possibly can in any liter of fuel they sell.
This results in there being an availability of fuel with an almost-fixed 5% ethanol and one with a similarly almost fixed 10% content. And our -admittedly relatively small- user base seems to have found a correlation between eth content and chirping. |
