i always pay the cheapest way. stamps are $0.55! most places now have online bill pay for free. a few bills have online processing fee's though, so i still go through plenty of checks for those.

Agreed. I used to do this in my old VWs. Helped for getting it into reverse if I recall correctly too. So far, I haven't needed to use it with the BRZ. However, if I hold the clutch in a couple seconds in advance, before slotting it into 1st, it's usually ok. If I'm coming down from a higher gear or doing a rolling stop, I'll double-clutch rev-match into 1st, regardless of cold or warm.

For the cold 1-2 shift, I'll do 1-->N-->2 until the car warms up. No double clutching necessary on this one. Not sure about the mechanics behind this one but it seems to work on every car I've driven in -30. Maybe it's all just a matter of not shifting too quickly.
