Yes to the first question.

For the second, dust boots get destroyed very quickly on track so IMO the lack of dust boots doesn't matter one bit. The salt issues are more related to the aluminum hats, calipers, etc. Just wash the brakes off often if you drive through those conditions.

Would you say lack of dust boots in the northwest where it rains 1/3 of the year would be a bad idea on a daily driver that only sees a couple track days a year? We don't use salt on our roads up here, only gravel and de-icer.

Rain is not the enemy or a factor. Road salt is the enemy of all brake components. It eats all aluminum parts, regardless of whether it is a road kit or a race kit.

The problem being that Competition kits aren't painted, which is helpful in preventing salt eating aluminum (nomnomnom!) right?

Yes. But the salt also likes to gnaw anodized aluminum brackets and hats. The hats on the discs get it the worst in my experience. The salt gets up in the attachment points on any two-piece disc, and it is darn hard to get out. It then chows away....nom nom. Calipers are much easier to keep clean. Think about other parts on a chassis, and what you see with corrosion. The places that get it the worst are the hard-to-get-to spots...under fasteners, tucked away, sandwiched between two panels, etc.

In the summer it daily thunderstorms here. Rain it's the issue, salt is bad. I wouldn't sweat rain at all

And in the formula kit the rotor hats, brackets, etc. are painted as well?

So since we don't use salt at all here on our roads then it doesn't really matter which brake kit I run competition (w/o boots) or performance (w/ boots). I'd only need to worry if I lived at the beach or drove on the beach and if the brakes fit the wheels I have. Good info!

Just got back home from COTA. Man do i love these brakes!!! After 12, 30 minute sessions the AP kit dominated the braking, i cant describe the amount of confidence these things give me. Mad props to Essex and AP for such an amazing kit! Now i just need some more pads and rear rotors :p.

Slight Teasers

BTW I finally took a pic to show what I think @Hanakuso was talking about when he mentioned grooving from the J-Hooks:

Obviously nothing to worry about, but I figured I'd see if this is what he meant.

I just ordered these brakes today. I'm sure they'll be awesome.
