Yeah, I know. Especially where I live now. Lower altitudes are a bit crowded round here. I missed my chance back when I lived in PA.

Just how they did this about it is total BS. It’s literally come down to take this position we’re offering or you’ll de demoted &/or you’ll be transferred to different department.

…Maybe I’m over exaggerating. The position they’re offering me is something once I wanted to do (just same pay)… but I found better career goal in my current department, which is to become supervisor. My supervisors & boss are retiring within 5yrs, so they trained me to be next supervisor. Now all their work & my work went to waste. If we’re talking about training about 3~6 months, sure I’ll get over it… I’m talking about over 5yrs. Now, I feel I’ve wasted over 5yrs of my work. I’m pretty sure, it wasn’t a waste. Just I feel that way.

Well, you don't have to be a supervisor there, you can probably find somewhere else to do what you want to do if you are unhappy with what is available at your current employer. Just something to consider.

Actually, that's kind of what caused me to move to a different company myself. My old company shut down the project I was working on and assigned me to a different project and team that was behind schedule and in a panic to get stuff out the door. I tried it for a month, then spent a week in August on an unshaded dock in South Florida doing nearly nothing because everything was broken, and then almost had my foot ripped off because [insert rant here]. Now, I had met a guy at a conference who was low-key trying to recruit me for like 3 months at this point. The week I got back from Florida the guy called again and that was that. Probably one of the best decisions I ever made looking back at it.

Well fuck - it happened - AGAIN!

It was last Monday night, about 7;30 PM, it was my birthday and I was on my way to pick up an order of crayfish, shrimp, catfish and hushpuppies from this carry out Cajun restaurant that just opened up in town.

As I was backing mrs's humfrz's tank out of the driveway, which one has to hit at an angle so as the car doesn't scrape, I "gently" scraped something. Now a few minutes before that my daughter, son-in-law and kids arrived and parked on the other side of the driveway, real close to my driveway entrance - because some numb-nuts parked in front of my house.

My daughter had just purchased a brand new (to them), black - yes, a real dark black, BMW SUV. Yep, you saw this coming, I "brushed" it on the way out of the driveway -

After I returned, I fessed up and my son-in-law we went out to inspect the damage. It appears that most all the damage will "rub out". No, really, it will.

The boiled crayfish was good, but hard to eat. The last time I ate grayfish I was in Louisiana and I was drunk and don't remember them being hard to eat (I just might have eaten the heads, tails and all) -

The fucking end!

The only time I ever heard the old "do something even if it's wrong" and actually thought that makes sense was at the Navy damage control school. If you are in a ship taking water then any action is more likely to help more than hinder and doing nothing should never be an option.
I mean, that is not the exact way I word it. It is usually directed at someone who should know the task they are doing, or enough of it to resolve an issue, but sit there and don't do anything because they are afraid to make a mistake. Like the other day we were looking at freight discrepancies in the shipping department. So the one warehouse employee goes and looks through the bill of ladings and matches them to the sales order. The problem is the BOL are directly made off the sales orders so that is pointless. I told her she needed to look at the invoice which is online and see if there was a reweight. Even though she KNOWS how to do a BOL online and rate quote she milled around the shipping area because she didn't know where the invoices where on the website

Well it was used it that context. We had already had he classroom part of it and were now in the "simulator". This consisted of a section of ships hull with a couple of compartments in a big tank. There was a bunch of common stuff you would find aboard laying around (mattresses blankets, seat and table tops, etc). A small group would go into the compartment with an instructor and they would start to pump water in at abut the pressure it would be below the water line. The water came in various different "cracks", "splinter holes" and other minor "damage". At this point you were expected to do something with what you had on hand. If anybody just stood there was when they were told the do SOMETHING.
Even though you knew you were perfectly safe it was easy to feel panicky as the water kept rising higher and higher since as soon as you blocked one hole they would open up another even bigger one.

lol that is funny but kinda messed up.

That's the thing though, if there is no harm to be done by doing something, or little harm at least, and something needs done then why do nothing? I guess the issue stems from a lot of our newer employees tend to wait around for others to do things for them when if they just prodded what they already know a little bit they can figure it out on their own.

Reminds me of The Office

Reminds me when I worked for an airline, and the IT staff building happened to be in the same building they did flight attendant emergency water procedures (same kind of setup, a partial fuselage in a large swimming pool). The attendants had to get "the passengers" to safety as the plane sunk.

If you walked through right after testing there would always be a portion of the trainees on the verge of collapse from the stress, and from the realization they really did have passenger's lives in their hands.

I’m not really talking about situations of imminent life or death, but ones where the is no obvious or even evident solution to a problem. In many to most of those cases a bit of thought focused on the core of the problem is better than a headless chicken freak out.

Example. Once, on “The Ranch” my Dad drove the tractor into a low spot on the edge of a pond that I’d warned him was soft and buried it up to the axle. He was embarrassed and pissed off. I was watching this transpire and he’s yelling, “don’t just stand there, do something. “ So I walked over to the jon boat and tossed him an oar.

He didn’t see the humor.

Later on I helped him dig an incline down to the drive wheels and wedged the oar under the tire and he drove it out. A little bit of thought can make a difference.
