There is hardly any hype behind the Z, I can't see markups happening for very long, it at all.

Now if it was a GTR....

Joke? There is plenty hype for the 400Z because people want companies to give 400hp cars away for $35k.

Mmmm not really. The Supra was hyped, this isn't even close. There is plenty of unreasonable expectations, not hype, just like how people keep saying the STi is going to be 400hp.

For the next year or so dealer markups will kill any new car buying dream. Gotta wait out this supply/demand situation. My advice for anything is "don't buy it now". If only I could wait out the current prices at the grocery store....

I haven't seen near as much hype for the 400Z as I did for the Supra or C8 Corvette. Some dealer markups on the C8 are still crazy high as supply can't keep up with current demand.

The Supras is still a great car, hyped or not.

Most people downunder live in the coastal cities, so no that far above see level. Certainly not enough to explain dramatic dyno differences compared to the US.
Like 'most' islands!

It's one of the best cars to release recently. Besides that crazy bad wind buffeting.

I always drive my FR-S with the windows down. That's a deal breaker for me with the Supra.

I just looked at my last dynos done on a MAHA which I understand provide both crank and wheel power pretty accurately, and depending on the boost level, the loss from crank to wheel HP varies between 21 and 24% at max power/rpm with the higher loss with higher boost levels. At mid rpms when boosts builds, the loss is more like 18-19%, at low rpm prior its around 21-22%.

They were done pretty close to sea level (230ft asl)

Big fan of windows down also. It's VERY bad without a helmet.

"Hype" isn't as important as sales. If the new Z offers Supra or better performance at $10k off (or more), with a manual transmission, that will be compelling for a lot of people.
It'll be interesting to see how well it does in the marketplace...

Well, they're related (hype/sales). At least initially. If a car doesn't live up to the initial hype, then sales can drop off after the die-hards buy the first ones. If the general consensus is good, then the car can continue to sell well.

While performance numbers are important, some like me, also base a purchase also on the intangibles or subjective factors like aesthetics and brand preference.

While I have no plans to buy a 400Z, I'm interested in it because I used to own an old Z, and would like to see Nissan succeed, and I enjoy seeing sport cars on the road. The last few generations of the Z's didn't do it for me, unfortunately. I kind of like the very simple and return to the classic lines of the early Z's, with the 400. Totally different approach than the MK5 Supra or C8 with their very busy designs (which both have their own appeal). I agree - it will be very interesting to see how the new Z does.
