Start Stop Switch - BRZ Limited

Might be a stupid question, but does anyone know what happens if the switch is hit when the car is in motion? The exact same thing as when you turn off the engine with a normal key or are there protections built in? I asked the sales person while test driving the FRS 10-series today and he didn't know.

I was messing with this over the weekend and it didn't seem to want to turn off on the highway over 50mph.

Edit*
I should add that under 50mph it will turn the car off if you are in neutral. Press it again and it'll kick right back up.

Really wish this thing had the keyless nub-turn ignition my speed6 came with. Acted like a key without having to use the key.

Refer to the manual, but IRRC in D/or in a gear hitting the start/stop button won't do anything. In N under a specific speed it will turn your motor off.

I'm sure all start/stop buttons are at least child proof... or pet proof for that matter incase naughty children or small pets accidentally press buttons on your center console.

From the owners manual:
Quote:
When the push-button ignition switch is pressed for 3 seconds or longer or pressed 3 times successively, the engine will stop. When the engine stops, the brake booster will not function. A greater foot pressure will be required on the brake pedal.

The power steering system will not operate either. A greater force will be required to steer, and it may result in an accident.
There has to be a way to turn it off while in motion, remember the Toyota unintended acceleration fiasco.

Thanks for this.... I had a scary situation with oil cooler line popping off and couldn't for the life of me turn the motor off quickly... Good to know there is a procedure for it.
