Winmax W2 Brake Pads Sticking

Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone can help me out with this issue. I just installed some Winmax W2 pads and it appears that they're sticking. The pistons were retracted and put back into their place and when I slid the caliper over the brake pads they were slid right in.

Any advice?

Thanks!

What makes you think they're sticking? Were the pads easy to insert into the caliper carriers?

Hello,

I have a pretty steep driveway and when I leave the car in neutral it'll roll back. However, when I installed the pads the car did not roll back.

I figured it out. I took off the shims and it now works perfectly.

Thanks all!

Is it required to remove the shims? I just installed some winmaxx pads and left the shims. The car is still on jack stands as I still have some more work to do.

TIA

I would leave off the shims. Although, my car is at 38k miles the brake pads had about 80% life on them. I compared the OEM pads with the Winmax pads and the Winmax pads are really thick, so with the shims it made the pads drag.

No, but it may make the shims + pads "too thick", which will ersult in pad drag until it gets thin enough.

@csgmike yeah winmax seems to have made then as absolutely thick as they could. Some people get lucky and it all fits new. Sometimes the shims only fit after a few miles.

I think I misunderstand. I am talking about the anti-rattle "shims" that are on the side of the pads, not the backing plate.

Thanks CSG Mike! I finally got around to installing the pads I bought from counter space garage. I signed up for subiefest, as all the 86cup's left are really far from me.

I never reuse that backing plate.

Am I using the incorrect terminology?

Ah, you can leave those in but it's a tight fit. That's normal

Where are you located? Everyone generally makes at least a 2 hour drive for most 86CUP events, with the Vegas guys regularly making a 5+ hour drive to make it...

Yeah I know. I'm in San Diego.

I'm excited to try out the new pads and tires. Thanks again for all your great help and advice.

I'll post a review of the pads after my first session

After bedding these brakes in, they feel great kinda like oem but they bite a little harder. Also not to mention without the backing plate and shims they look awesome on the car

you don't leave the backing plate on? I heard it is supposed to dissipate heat and protect the piston seals from melting. that's why I kept mine on, but I do agree the gold looks awesome lol

Sorry about my post, I was referring to the two shims. Not the backing plate.
