hehe I tried and it won't budge, what's the point of it tho cause if the thing falls the middle part stops on the floor before bottoming out. I'll try again tho

It’s to make sure you don’t set them too high, if you do they can fail.

what if i want to store the stands with the parts separated?

that's not a safety tab. that's a shipping compromise.
