dash speaker problems

so I've been reading the forums and seems like a lot of people have been having problems with aftermarket ones fitting right. anybody find some that fit flush? no modification? should I be looking for 3.5 or 4" speakers for the dash?

Most any 3.5" will fit just fine in the dash with no modifications required to the dash mounting itself. You may need to use some over sized washers if you wish to use the stock bolt locations however. I am running Infinity Reference 3002cfx in the dash and I used the larger washer method. I then re-pinned in a generic aftermarket speaker adapter using the OEM connector making my own plug and play setup requiring no cutting of the stock harness.

I put Infinity Kappa 4"s in the dash:

[ame="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0018SH4TS/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1"]Amazon.com: Infinity 429I 150W (Peak) 4 -Inch 2-Way Speaker (Pair): Car Electronics[/ame]

They fit snugly around the sides but the magnet hits the air duct on both sides and leaves a 1/2" gap. I used a pencil style dremel and carefully cut out the duct just enough to let the speakers sit all the way down then covered the hole with sound deadening material. Works well and sounds 100% better than stock. Especially with plenty of power.

I bought 3 sets of the door speaker plug and play harness. I de-pinned a set of the door speaker harness and the OEM speaker connector plug from the OEM speaker in the dash. I transferred that connector to the set of door speaker harness' I bought to make it a plug and play affair with the aftermarket speakers. Once my amp shows up I will post pictures and info on my whole installation.
