Yup, then the only issues becomes successfully collecting on the judgment, which is usually a bigger problem with random individuals and not so much large entities.

I have a massive oil leak post-recall work done. I've been in contact with the service writer who helped me. He mentioned it could be the timing cover.

Shouldn't that be covered since the mechanic needed to disassemble the motor to get to the valve springs?

Yes. Unless you have a cold air intake. Then they're going to throw you under the bus.

Damn, this was back in MAY, FFS.... It's now July 24th, and I'm still driving the bright blue Corolla Hatchback the dealership loaned me when I brought my car in for service on APRIL 16th!

Honestly, fuck this car, I don't even want it back. Next time he calls me, I'm just gonna ask him if i can keep the Corolla as a straight trade for my FR-S :p

I've been driving a bright orange outback or whatever it is they gave me for the past two months! Finally got the call that the engine is back in my car and they're road-testing it today.

Well it finally happened, funny thing is I only got the recall because a friend of mine had it done earlier and put on tons of kilometres without issues. I swear the day my car was ready to be picked up after the recall, he spins a rod bearing.
When I went to pick up my car today, there were three cars sitting in the lot with dead engines.

Vehicle Mileage: 119000 km
Vehicle Make: 2013 FRS
Mileage After Recall Performed: 2000km
Symptom(s): loud knocking, started at around 5k rpm and car shut off shortly after
Failure: tbd
State: Ontario, Canada
Is Dealership Offering Repair: No, because car was out of warranty, dealership wanted to charge labour to start any diagnosis. Service tech said it would be a waste of time/money because I obviously needed a new engine and sent me straight to Toyota Canada to try to start a claim.

The car may be out of warranty but the repair shouldn't be... It had a 12 month limited mile warranty, at least in the US.

The repair they performed has a 12 mo warranty. If the rod exited the block and they claim it has nothing to do with the work they performed you get nothing.

We know it was due to the recall, but if the dealership doesn't want to back it up you will have to fight it.





If you remove a door panel and replace a window motor the window motor has a 12 mo warranty. The door panel does not inherit any of that warranty.

If the tech breaks the door panel taking it off and glues it back together, which later falls off when you slam the door... that's on the dealer.

It's just like that. But $10k.

Yea, I get that. Didn't read your message that way though, you just said because the car wasn't under warranty they wouldn't do anything to check it. Since the repair is under warranty they "should" evaluate if the repair caused the problem.

Of course, that is expecting good faith on the part of the dealer I realize...
