I dunno, but take comfort in knowing that it will eventually quit on its own. Mine did anyway after 9 months or so, IIRC.

Not sure what TSB it was, however, when I had my '15 in the dealer recently and complained of a clicking noise from the back seat they noted a TSB for the rear seat latches. After they replaced them I have yet to have the noise again.

I just bought a 2012 BRZ and I immediately notice this annoying noise.
I would have described it as a "plastic tapping metal" noise coming from the trunk.

I followed the 1st part of the Subaru TSB, and it is completely done!

Thanks a lot for this very useful information!

Tried to do the fix myself with WD-40 twice and has not fixed it. I checked everything on the rear deck and also took off the receiver box. Anyone have tips to how i should go forward with this?

I took it to Subaru but they said my 2013 BRZ wasnt covered in the TSB after both my attempt's failed.

Did you show them that the TSB says 13 MY right on it?

Yes I did it was printed out in the car for them since the receptionist had no idea what a TSB was. She had told me my VIN did not match up.

A receptionist? That is our problem right there. Probably security personnel had the answer to your troubles.

If I understand correctly, the dealer essentially stating that the correction or fix is already applied?

What should be our next steps? Should we confirm repair, and eventually start up looking at other possible sources for the noise?

I just get so "ticked" at dealers not being very helpful or at least interested on helping get some resolve.

After more weeks of driving, I started to notify again a noise coming from the trunk. But, this time it was a bit different, very less loud. I would described it, as already written here, as scratching plastic bottles.

So, it seems the 1st part of the TSB resolves the loud ticking noise, and the 2nd part of the TSB probably solves the quiter plastic bottle noise.

I mean probably, because this time I will no try it. It looks too complicated, and that noise is not that noticeable when driving, because I usually listen to music.

This is driving me nuts. Any ideas where it could come from? I tried the DIY with greasing it all up to no avail.

Yes it's the trunk latch (to put the seat down), either you tweak the alignment with a screw driver or I just added Vaseline (inside, outside) which you may need to apply from time to time.

Excuse me for the stupid question: Where is it??

My car is a European spec GT86 and I can't see a latch anywhere.

(P.S. the rear seat is removed. The car is completely empty from the front seats and back).

This absolutely worked for me after I had tried every other other single thing suggested on this forum. My big mistake was thinking the sound was in the parcel shelf or trunk (boot) area. It was my son riding in the back who said it was coming from the roof. Thanks tonytduc!

I undid the 3 bolts each side that secure the roof crossbeam to the C pillar internal metal supports, hit them with a spot of lithium grease, slightly prised apart the join with out deforming it to get a bit of grease in there too, then replaced the bolts and did them up tight. The annoying constant tick ticking sound has vanished. It drove me so crazy I thought I could still hear it after it had gone, but it has definitely gone. Ah, the serenity!
