Yeah I assume they are going for a CARB certificate since it keeps all the emissions stuff in place. Price is okay, I am curious if they plan on adding a IC upgrade option at some point. I don't know about pushing the car hard for any length of time with a turbo and no IC.

I wasn't too sure if that was all the kit consists of because I'm sorry to be the negative Nelly here, but from my standpoint, this kit is horrible. 7.4psi on a blow-through setup?! These guys are insane! Being around turbo cars my entire life, GOOD INTERCOOLING is one of the key ingredients to a proper turbo setup. That finned pipe has seriously gotta be a joke.

A blow-through setup (ie: no intercooling) coupled with our high compression fa20 has disaster written all over it. @WORKS You're definitely going to have to prove your kit here with proper dyno videos, sheets, and how you're not detonating. I can see one or two power pulls, but this kit I can't seeing living too long upon hard use.

For real though, all this kit needs is an A2W intercooler in place of that goofy fined pipe. I can see this kit being something different but great. Just needs one of these setups:

Yeah I thought of that and the design lends itself to using a barrel AWIC. Would need something to support it, that aluminum finned pipe is light enough to be supported by the end piping, the AWIC certainly isn't. There are plenty of places in that area to bolt a bracket too though. The specs I saw on the pipe show it being 6" in diameter from fin to fin. You can certainly get barrel AWICs which are smaller.

I was about to buy this kit. Only reason I held off is because my current financial situation.
They do intend to have a intercooled version early next year. Not 100% sure if they were going to have it as a upgrade that you could buy after or not.
I can't speak for works. But I don't think this kit was made to be a track killer. But I did see them at Laguna Seca with it for a hpde event.
As far as having a kit with no intercooler at all, I am comfortable At low psi without it.
My celica does not have a intercooler with the greddy supercharger and has fairly high compression. When I was on 91 octane I did fine at 11 psi on all but the hottest days in summer.
Now on e85 it is a non issue for my car.

I know people who have run non-intercooled turbos on the FA20. If you can run E85 all the time I don't consider running low boost a big deal. 91 octane? Forget it if you want to have an engine survive for very long or unless you limit yourself to 4-5 PSI.

This looks like @86_ZN6 car. This is the same ex site "vendor" who got banned (Really don't know why), but I remember him having big arguments in the page because of a WORKS (IIRC) drop in filter that claimed 10 whp and couldn't back it up with a dyno. Also tried to pre-sale like 30 members on TOMs tails but in fact they were not Toms (something about a manufacturer not being selected), and having another big discussion with money being held, when was the money going to be returned, etc.. etc... And also some issues with a groupbuy for some VG Sharkfinn antennas taking a long time to get built after taking the money for all of them.

I don't think he "worked" for Works, but think they had a close relationship and his car was being used to prototype a turbo kit. (This was all many months ago).

EDIT: I've been clarified via PM that WORKS is no longer associated with the aforementioned individual. That is very good news.

This is correct. Our Stage 1 Kit does not make use of a front mount intercooler. It does contain a finned aluminium air-to-air heat exchanger as part of the intake piping that you can see in the photos.

Included in our kit is a heat shield that protects the battery. It's not easy to see in the first photo, but more photos are coming shortly.

Official dyno graphs will be released when the kit is released publicly.

Hi jflogerzi,

We have already discussed through PM, but to let everyone else know we are open to non-local people taking advantage of the offer. Just PM us so we can understand your particular situation.

Regarding track testing, our development kit installed on our own BRZ had 3 drivers do back-to-back track days at Laguna Seca where we were data logging every run with two laptops and every time we came back to the pits, we used our IR temp gun to record all the turbo parts and surrounding components. We even had temperature indication paint on the all parts of the turbo kit and the surrounding areas.

We have internally and externally thermal coated the up and down pipes and properly shielded all of the wiring.

We are also keeping the air-fuel ratios on the rich side to keep exhaust gas temperatures down.

That being said, if you will be driving your car on the track, at the autocross, etc., we certainly recommend an oil cooler kit like ours (soon to be released) to reduce the peak temperatures prevalent in the FA20.
