I've never run lower then 26 psi hot, started feeling inconsistent for me. I usually set at 29 psi hot and bleed down to 28-30 based on balance. Re71r 245/40/17 17x9, I've heard bfg and yoke like 1-2 psi more. 20 psi sounds like Hoosiers on a <2200 lb car pressures, not really relevant to this car/class. Edit I see the size now, still curious about compound and I've run these pressures down to the low 50s, ambient and in the damp/wet. When it's chilly you usually have less grip as the tires don't stay warm, everyone is dealing with the same thing and it's just something to drive around imho Last edited by strat61caster; 10-04-2020 at 04:03 PM. |

ok let me restate my question, i run 255/40/17 RE71rs. i normally run 24psi but was having sever rear grip issues in the cold at that psi. what pressure should i run them at since i have 2 more events this year and it probably will be just as cold

Since I知 not planning on changing exhaust or header I would be only stage 1. Seems like a lot of cash for a single use unless it has a big improvement on tourqe and flattens the dip so to speak

Once you get the wheels/tires/suspension sorted the 15 hp from header+tune is the next few tenths to the pointy end. |

I run 255/40R17 as well, but A052s. I don't dare go below 29 psi in the front as I'm already a bit warmer on the outside shoulder with some extra wear. Currently running -3.8 front camber Rear I'm at 27-28 psi with -2.5 camber. If it's cold and your having traction issues, it's probably not a tire pressure problem. Might just be because it's cold. Or perhaps it's cold and your tires are starting to heat cycle out. |

I've never ran my car on Bridgestones, but 24 seems really low. Especially for 255's.
As far as adapting to lower temps, blankets help. And don't open your hood. Another thought, and something I've played with at some colder events, is to take a sacrificial run with traction control on and hope to retain some of the heat that generates. |

i thought about them being heat cycled out since ive been running pretty much every weekend this year. but i have the same camber more or less. -3.7 front -2.5 back. i asked one of the really good stx drivers what psi i should be at at the start of the year and he said 27 front 26 back but to check the indicator and temps since im on 255s and not 245s. i ended up dropping to 24 to get to the indicators |

Have you considered SSC or do you want to bite the big bullet and go to STX? |

I posed that question before and some say the ssc has some unusual handling characteristics. Plus there are not many running ssc. Lots running STX. The BRZ seems very competitive in STX.

With that said, having competed in both, the car is WAY more fun with a header/tune, so I would recommend those. The car with my STX exhaust really isn't any louder than it was in SSC with the Nameless muffled track pipe. |
