First of all, congrats, great work! I developed and realized a full custom swap (by means without any aftermarket swap mounts and so on) and expierienced the added effort myself. Respect to anyone who sucsessfully makes such a build running!
May I ask how heavy the car is after the swap? What power are you running currently? 350whp ish @7800? Where is the redline? |

I´d be highly curious in seeing a dyno chart and the graph for torque. I have a 86 @3150lb, so little heavier than stock. It runs arround 4.5s according log 60-100mph. Also one shift. Didn´t dyno this thing yet, bit wouldnt expect much more than 400whp. Would be highly intresting to compare the torque graphs of those two engines. I will see if I can get mine measured. |

Larger turbo than the GTX4508R replica? Seems like the lag is going to be ehh. Are you doing this for dragging mostly? Planning on spraying to help with turbo spool?
I remember you saying your goal was 700-850whp, which seems like it would hit that around 6500-7k on the GTX4508R? It seems like a bigger turbo would just shift everything to the right even more, and it would still have some headroom for more power than your goals. In fact, isn't the GTX4508R rated for up to 1250hp, so wouldn't a larger turbo just be more unnecessary lag and less area under the curve? Wouldn't something between the GTX3582R and your current turbo be ideal for more low end torque/faster spool, while still achieving your goal, or am I way off? I'm just curious because there doesn't seem to be much under 5k.

I was just thinking you would want more usable power, but I totally get enjoying that big, late surge from a large turbo. It is a rush.

4k = 125hp and 150tq 5k = 210hp and 225tq Not much happening, especially compared to the peak numbers, but if you are at 11.5psi at 5k then your plot is more to the left than the one you posted below by an extra 50-75hp or something. Compared to this, there is more lag, but I get you, that late turbo rush pulling to redline is fun. Had a MKIV Supra. I don’t recall another motor like the 2JZ pulling so hard straight to redline. It’s fun.

Yeah, whp implied. Your turbo is bigger with gt42 interior bits so more lag? I figure your cams, k20a head n stuff would help more on the top end, but whatever. You have it like you like it, which is all that matters.

Anyway, I think its very intresting to do some basic comparisons of those two worlds, especially beased on the same chassi. Log graphs of speed and calculated torque (or maybe even G load) vs time would be very intresting. Not in order to discuss if one is bette than the other, I wouldnt even think about making a judgement there. Just because I imagine its intresting to compare a mount Everest style torque graph to a dead mans cardiogram if you know what I mean. Actualy I'm very intrested about the different behavior of this two worlds in one Chassis since I'm kind of already thinking about upcoming projects. My former cars also followed the turbo R4 concept. So Im absolutely not averse to the idea of a lighter engine with a more backward COG and big boost. To be honest, I was expecting a bigger advantage in acceleration for the K24 swap, especially in a 60-100 scenario. The LS is also runing a H pattern since it is meant as a daily. For sure there are faster options also for the LS. But this doesnt made sence with the second aim given for this project what is drifting. Anyway, I was thinking about potential follow up projects, thats my reason for intrest. As there is a FI on the LS, a R4 swap, R6 swap or H6 swap. Nothing to Start with next week, I planned over 2 years for the last project. Also Im not sure if it will be another 86 or a S14 in case I decide against the LS FI, what would be a addon for the current project. Since this additional project car is potentialy supposed to my wife and she is a S14 fan, it tends to not be an 86. For the S14 also online 4 turbo or LS are the low hanging fruits looking on my existing expirience. Or I start over with something New for me and go inline 6. As well, a FI LS daily would be more feasable in the S14. On the other hand I dont know if I want to see my wife driving this while sitting in a NA LS. Hard decissions to be made... So, long story short, hope the K24 will develop further and hope to see some more facts. A good documentation about the wiring solution and Integration of the 86 ECU would be great. I'd run a 2871R on a 1.8L 20V. Spool rpm mssively changed with A/R and header design. Startet with a self made steel header and A/R .82 or something. Ended up with a shock charging manifold (hope thats the correct Translation) and A/R .62. Peak power Was nearly idendical while spool rpm was lowered ~3750 to below 3000rpm. Engine wasnt meant for max output, only 6700rpm redline. Something about 400whp as a daily. But also had that pretty sudden torque kick. To be honest, I also was thinking about this engine in the 86 before I decided for the excurse into displacement country...
Keep posting times and data please, very interesting! |

Wow, impressive numbers! I saw you are also running the RS-R. I was massively impressed by the traction they generate when i drove them first time. But I guess I would never be able to achive that high G´s. Where did you achive this numbers? Was it on a drag strip? That would be a potential 1,5-2s (plus shift time) to 60mph time!

Literally made an account just to post here, this is awesome well done! Makes me contemplate keeping my car, I was just about to sell it. I have a Turbo IS300 as well that I'd love to compare a K24 to.
Any hopes of you releasing a guide on how to make this harness? I think that will be the hardest part of the whole endeavor, mounting it is the easy part. |

Can't wait to finish mine up! I got rid of ABS and TC and PS and everything, aiming for the lightest possible 86 I can make. 250whp, 2400lbs wet!

Awesome videos. Can you post your thoughts on the CD009?
Do you find that it shifts as smooth as the 86 oem transmission or does it feel a bit sloppy or vague? Also, any pics of how the shifter sits in its place? Just trying to figure out if it's close to oem or is it one of those things where you have to make endless cuts and modifications around the shifter area to make this work. I know the transmission tunnel needs some "massaging" to get the CD009 to fit, but curious to see the shifter inside the car. |
