so it's coming down to 250 miles?

i'll take the car for a weekend.. it'll have 500 more by the time i'm done!

stream something nice off your phone, hit the on-ramp, and find somewhere nice to eat 200 miles away. take the wife on a date. take the dog on a trip. go looking for something you'll never find. 200 miles is no big deal

I wouldn't worry about the miles. Change the fluids though. I had a bunch of metal on my tranny and diff plugs, plus the stock fluid that came out of the tranny did not impress me. This was at 1000 miles. And get crash/camber bolts and an aligment. The stock one sucks.

I changed those on mine at 3k and wish I did it sooner. I did about 6 autox events on the car then the trans started to be tough to get back into 2nd gear so I figured I'd change the fluid. Stuff came out nasty and tons of metal on the magnet plug. Diff was about the same too, maybe a bit less metal.

Its been 1500 miles, 2 autox's and 1 track day since then and considering swapping the fluid after 1 more autox and track event. Cars shifting totally fine but figure theres still some remnants floating around in there.

Why are Americans so obsessed with changing fluids? I get a yearly oil change and whatever the service manual dictates..

1. well for a new car, dealerships here love to find any excuse to void a drivetrain warranty. miss an oil change interval and whoops, sorry no more coverage.

2. How many miles do you drive a year? what are the driving conditions? how long do you keep a car?
Between my wife and I, we have three daily drivers- I have a car, she has the minivan, and we share the truck when needed to move big stuff or haul trailers. between the three vehicles, we put approx 40,000 miles (yeah 64,000km) a year on them. It's also >100F (38C) outside right now and extremely humid, so fluids go through tremendous heat cycling and have to deal with moisture contamination. Per manufacturer recommended service intervals, everything we own falls under the 'severe duty usage' column, which means oil changes every 6,000-10,000 miles.

The truck is a large 3/4 ton diesel and holds 14qts of oil. that sucker only gets done every 20k miles or so, so once a year. Because it hauls trailers and heavy loads most of the time, I also drain/fill the trans and diff during the annual service.. the smaller stuff all get more frequent oil changes but less frequent drivetrain service due to the lighter use case.

We also keep cars for >200,000 miles and the price of a little extra oil is cheap insurance vs. having to replace a drivetrain or entire vehicle.

This is the performance driving subforum.

Check out how your fluid drains, particularly the trans on this platform, and you'll visually see why. Different platforms have different needs, and this platform really needs frequent transmission fluid changes.

Ya, I'm starting to understand that. In the manual does it say anything about tracking the car? Or draining Diff and Trans?

My schedule is grand packed- I won't be able to change the trans and diff this time around. Is it detrimental I change it or would I be ok taking it easy on AutoX and changing it lager this summer? I'm not going full send...

Personally, if the schedule is that packed, I'd have a service pick up and drop off the car.

Really comes down to your priorities with how much you value long term wear and tear.

Will one event REALLY make a difference? In theory yes. In actuality? Who knows.

My transmissions last longer when I do frequent fluid changes.

Sorry, didn't appreciate the nature of the site.. My observations are pretty general as the same dicussions appear in other 'non-performance driving' parts of this brilliant forum. And I have read elsewhere that Americans have a fixation on changing fluids.. Anyway, enjoy your track driving.. I must venture out to the track, haven't been in ages.. the last time was in my Exige..
