A voltage meter is the correct tool to test modern vehicle circuits, NOT a test light.
Well multimeter blew the fuse and test light didn't so

Perhaps you mistakenly had your meter set to read current instead of voltage? That would cause the fuse to blow.

No, definitely voltage. I never measure current. Now I unplugged the connector and measured the body side of the harness, as opposed to back pinning. Maybe that's where I went wrong

I've never seen a digital multimeter that was being used correctly actually cause a fuse to blow, and I've used them all my life. Just sayin'.
