Tinting Question

I've got an appointment to have my windows tinted on Tuesday. Usually the tint shops say not to roll the windows down for a bit just in case. However, our windows roll down slightly when we open the door.

Im curious, does that issue pose a problem?

Thanks guys. Ill also run it past the tint shop before they start to see what they recommend. Worst case scenario, Ill pull the fuse as mentioned above.

Pulling the fuse will not work. Car has a fail safe even if you pull the fuse. Final resting place of the closed window is above the hard frame of the roof. You would break the window opening the door if it didn't' operate correctly. So even with the fuse pulled it will go down when opening but it wont go back up closing the door.

Keep it simple.

Open door. Push the button above the latch on the door frame that senses the door being closed. Window will go up all the way with the door open. Tape button down and install tint. Remember to remove tape before closing or bad things will happen

Or you can just remove the screw that holds the sensor in place. The window will stay rolled up until you reinstall the screw.

I must've updated a different tint thread, but......

I asked the tint shop what would be best. They said dont worry about it. I didn't, and the tint looks perfect.

Any reputable tint shop knows how to handle this.

I just told the tinter/owner that my car does that. They said "okay, don't worry about it" sure enough the tint came out perfect. Even when it rolled up and down everytime i closed/open the door the rest of that day.

Here's how we figured it out when my windows were tinted:

For some reason the door switches on the BRZ are handled differently from usual. But just unplugging the switch doesn't raise the windows. They must be in the raised position when the switch is disconnected for them to stay up. It might be a CAN-BUS thing.

Open the door and press the door switch in, the window should roll up completely.
While holding the switch in, remove the bolt holding the switch to the body. This will cut the ground.
Now you can release the switch and tape it in place so it won't fall out.

When your tint has cured, reverse the process; hold the switch in, replace the bolt, then release the switch.

If a tint shop is good then they should be able to lay the tint below the window line on the bottom so when it rolls up or down that .7 inch the tint should not be affected by much...in california its illegal to have your front windows tinted anyways :happy0180:, but in case you are going to do it make sure they lay the tint out below the weatherstrip
