This would be an interesting swap to me. In fact, since this car was rumored and after release I have been wondering if an NA flat six would be available in this car from the factory at some point. All the "We will not do FI..." talk from subaru and toyota just make me dream about other NA power options.

What I'm currently trying to find out is how are easy a swap to an EJ would be..... Seems the hardware for an EJ to EZ is relatively simple.

Doesn't matter how easy it is to physically mount the engine to the body, the transmission still won't bolt up, and you'll have to re-plumb and re-wire the whole engine bay. (direct + port injection on 4 cylinders vs just port injection on 6 cylinders).
I also doubt any available headers will work with this platform either, so you're looking at a one off custom header to make the swap fit. Doesn't matter if the engine itself is only $1000, it's going to cost more than FI to get the engine in the car and running.

Actually this sounds like a really cool project. I think a standalone ecu is the only way you'll get it to work. And once you work out the tuning bugs, it's a super reliable motor. Maybe you should put some high compression pistons and redo the head to see if you can eke out 300hp from an NA H6... That would be a killer setup...

Easiest thing for the box is to put a RWD spool into an EJ or EZ 6 speed and use that. I'd personally put a Vipec V88 on it for ease of engine control, but with enough work you can make it run on a stock EZ ECU like the one in the link above. |

Andrew, I hear what you're saying..... but so far you've offered no constructive help. So the stock ECU is a no-go. I figured it probably was anyway.
@JP, that's what I was looking for, who is it that's done the conversion? I've read on NASIOC about an Impreza managing to use the stock EZ ECU on an OBD2 car. I'm hoping that integration may not be to hard into the FT platform. With the FA20 about to make it's way into some other Subaru models, it should be easy to ascertain how easy gearbox compatibility is, or what may be required.

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33486 You can get some info on the 3x data busses used by the 86 ECU from techinfo.toyota.com and there's plenty of info out there around the stock H6 ECU. IMO the electrical side of things is the most difficult part of a H6 swap into the 86, all the custom fabrication required to make it work mechanically is relatively easy. There's nothing hard about making new headers, tailshaft, cooling system, shift linkage etc etc. |

Pretty sure @ichitaka05 knows about an H6 swap out of Japan...but I don't see it being cheaper than boost after all the custom fab work.

Swapping an engine not designed for a chassis into said chassis does not equal OEM reliability, regardless of what you might think.
I've got lots, and lots of swaps under my belt and at least 50% of the ones I did that were first time swaps (a lot of back in the day Honda swaps) had some sort of issues. Wiring troubles that took time to figure out. Used engines that went bad shortly after a swap, engine management that didn't work quite right (again..the days before plug and play Honda swaps, write-ups on forums, etc). Diving into a one of a kind swap is likely going to end up costing you double what you think it might. It's a huge endeavor and will require extensive planning, knowledge, and money regardless of how cheap the motor is. I'm not saying it's not going to work, or that you can't do it. I'm just saying prepare for things to not work, and spending a lot of time and money to make it right, especially if your intention is to have an OEM quality build. Best of luck.
