Overheating stick shift

I have a 2013 FRS. If I drive it on the highway in 6th gear for more than about 45 minutes, then try to shift the gear shifter doesn't want to move and any subsequent shift changes are like moving the shifter in molten lava. If I wait about 10 minutes or do several shifts it goes back to normal. Has any one seen this before? I have had a complete clutch replacement and it was normal for a but 1 month, then back to the same problem. By the time I get it to the shop the problem goes away and they cant find anything wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, sj30jet and welcome to our forum.....

Let's see, when you are trying to shift out of 6th gear ... are you pushing in on the clutch ...?? (I'm jest ah messen wich ya ...)

Are you sure the transmission is full of oil ..??

I would suggest that you have the hydrolytic clutch system fluid replaced and the system bled.

Now, I'll refer you to our "clutch expert" .... @Ultramaroon for the real fix .....

Are you running a stock shifter or aftermarket one?

I had a similar issue on my BMW M3 shifter. I had a B&M unit. What happened is that the shift ball and linkage cup were both metal. When exposed to the heat of the exhaust long enough, the metal expanded. So imagine a space of .05mm space with heat, reducing down to .025mm of space.

That's my best guess - IF you are running an aftermarket short shifter kit.
If not, check under the car to see if you still have all the stock heat shielding in place.

I would check to see if you have oil in your transmission. Take out the fill plug and stick your pinky in there to see if you can feel it. The oil should barely seep out if you have it level on jack stands or a lift from the fill hole but not a lot. if it doesnt and you cannot feel anything in there I would drain whatever you have left in it and refill. There is a DIY article on here somewhere. At least that's what I would check first.

I don't think that's the clutch. OP, ...

1. Did you buy the car new?

2. If no, for how many miles have you owned it?

3. Do you have to pump up the clutch pedal ever, or does the clutch disengage perfectly every time?

Everything works perfectly EXCEPT after driving for more than 45 min, or so, at high speed, i.e. on the highway which I do every day. If I drive around town this never happens. the clutch works fine, but the gear shift just wont move

Again.... Have you checked your trans oil?

You have to answer the questions people are asking you if you want to get help.
