Yup. Talked with @OLLIS and @nelsmar about track car builds last night. Got some good advice if I want to build an MR2, but I'm thinking as a novice at tracking and building, I'm better off if I START by doing a budget miata build. Less money spent, less tears if things go wrong.

Still want to do what Ollis suggested, though. MR2 with 5S block, 3SGE Dual-VVTi-L heads, some form of FI (probably SC to keep the linear power curve, and "throttle controls power, not time till boost"), and Elise 6spd transmission. But that's going to cost some extra $$ (not too bad, actually considering costs, but still more than budget miata). AND, it'd take away from money that would be better invested in skill building in a cheaper (yet still adequate) track car.

I dunno enough about E85. How much is it usually? at this price, it almost makes sense to do the tune if just for the gas price saving. Do you typically get better, worse, or similar gas mileage?

Worse. I get about 80 miles less per tank. But the performance more than makes up for it.

Usually around $3.30.

Dude, it's mostly ethanol. Worse mileage. Much worse. Ethanol per unit volume produces less energy when combusted than does gasoline. BUT, the intercooling properties of E85 and the inherent knock resistance means that you can tune for MORE power with it than with gasoline. You just have to flow lots more of it per injection cycle.
