Fair enough. I've had a love/hate relationship with Dell since it was "PC Limited" so I know what you mean. I was not a happy camper when Dell bought Alienware in 2006. They did stay relatively autonomous though in terms of design and marketing, so there is some goodness there.

In the end, for personal use, I sometimes buy, sometimes build, and sometimes buy and mod depending on price and functionality.

I don't buy gaming laptops because I don't need the mobility. IMO, the best gaming machine is a properly configured desktop. It will also be the "cheapest" in the long run since you can more easily modify/upgrade. I can usually get about 5 years out of the base unit with a midcycle video refresh before I feel I have to move on. CPU isn't nearly as important any longer than it used to be, it's all about the GPU these days. I also "manage" to get along fine with one gen back video cards. That's the sweet spot in price/performance for me.
Yea you're definitely paying for mobility in a laptop.

I've never bought a prebuilt computer and then added/replaced parts, I've always just built mine from the ground up.

However LinusTechTips recently released a video about how nowadays it's actually become much more competitive with both price and performance when comparing a pre-built PC and a custom PC of similar specs.

I still think I'll continue to build my own PCs though. Nothing is more satisfying than starting up a freshly built water-cooled computer for the first time.

You forgot to add "and it works"....

I've built PCs since the mid 80's (8088 turbo or 80286 anyone?) so I'm right there with you. I started doing it to save money, but its hard to do that any longer (as you mention). Still it is satisfying to know I can field strip one if I need to and modding a part here, a part there to tweak it is always fun.

I'll probably build my next one rather than buy because I want dual video cards, and you can't really buy that off the shelf.

This has just come to my attention. Look at the size of the world!!
The game play demo vocals are useless and superfluous but what can one expect from an official demo? This looks like a game that might actually benefit from co-op.

Ehhh, Ubisoft has been letting me down for a long time. I have very little hopes for any game they make.

Might not get it. Looks like a GR version of the division.

Game design based on system capabilities is bad game design. Making a game big doesn't make it good.

I agree but there is a small possibility that Ubisoft might get it right.

Case in point. I thoroughly enjoyed Just Cause 3. It wasn't much of game; it was very repetitive but I liked it all the same. It was fun. The fact that it was just one huge map added to its appeal for me.

I've found as my time for gaming has become more limited I am gravitating to big map games because you can play them in small bursts of time. Go in, complete a mission or two, then leave and come back to it later. The sense of accomplishment over time overrides some of the repetitiveness for me.

I am a completist. Hence the infinite worlds just make the game unsatisfying.

Yea, so am I, which is why it takes me months to play some of the games. I'm also burdened with not liking to play two different games at the same time, so right now my Steam list probably carries me through retirement.

How is the gameplay? Been wanting to pick this game up but after hearing complaints from the console versions about the story line getting interrupted by other players and the online only campaign.
