Ah, what was it about the BRZ that preferred over, say, a Gumpert Apollo?

(Friendly ribbing, if I could afford "any car", I would still have an FR-S. Hot Lava, of course. )

Did the Gumpert even make it to the US before they went bankrupt?

Hey old sport, when I was shopping the Gumpert Apollo, the lack of OEM parts supply concerned me greatly. As did the lack of qualified techs. Hence, I elected to procure the BRZ, my good sir.

Sigh...

Well, it's been a beautiful Christmas, and I'm hoping for a wonderful, caring, New Year for us all. Wish I hadn't read that post.

I'm a musician and teacher. Years ago, I was playing a jazz festival and the soundguy was ... ummm... more than slightly unfamiliar with... lessee.. .kind of a long list.. his equipment.. jazz ... the sound of real instruments... anything other than ear-splitting metal concerts (at least judging by the shrill, ear-splitting, noise hash coming from the monitors and FOH systems). The leader of our band, in total frustration during sound check, said,

"Those who can't do, teach... those who can't teach, teach gym. Those who can't teach gym, run sound." As a teacher, I still laughed at it.

He inherited the money. Easy come; easy go.

Still, the FR-S is fun, good looking, inexpensive, and gets excellent MPG. (for a sporty car, anyway)

and while it's good that the money is going to charities, i just don't get the philosophy to leave that much money behind and not enjoy it before you die. as jd001 said-- most charities piss away money pretty easily, so while the money appears to be be going somewhere good, it's not much better then if he had just spent it and enjoyed himself.
That would be assuming he was a complete cheapskate asshole which it doesn't appear to be.

He seems like the guy who just bought what he needed to get by without excess.

-Instead of buying 80 dollar designer jeans, he just got himself some Costco jeans cuz they were cheap and comfortable to him, and didn't buy a new pair until those were torn up.
-Instead of going out to eat at a fancy restaurant every few days, he stayed home and cooked food with a week and a half's worth of groceries in his fridge.
-Instead of buying that ivory backscratcher, he just made like a bear and just rubbed his back against the exposed stud walls in his basement.

Having an unknown sizeable inheritance, being single and having no kids would also help in that regard.

It is really nice of him leaving that much money to charity. But you can also fly to wherever and build houses and schools, buy stuff and hand it over yourself. I rather my option.

Well, hard to do that when you are dead, but I do see your point.

Some people will do extreme things to have a plaque with their name on something for when they die. He could have been actually doing something where he could see the results while still alive to ensure it's use.
Now some charity(which is run by people who "need" money also to run said charities) will hopefully make a difference with that $11m after they get their cut. But at least somewhere out there will be a plaque...
The CEO of Unicef, Red Cross, Goodwill, etc are millionaires so I'm sure an extra $11m coming in here and there always helps especially when their Rolls is in for repairs.

And this is why, if I feel like, “I have too much money”, let’s go out and help poor kids and not hope it gets to them.
