I'm starting to think I should go for a drive and look for a torque dip. Is mine broken? I don't seem to have one.

Go cruise at 3800 RPM in any gear. Floor the gas. The car will take a solid 1/4 of a second to accelerate beyond 4200rpms. Not acceptable!

Where is the op?

Sounds to me like his emotions is fighting with his logical side. His heart prefers a Miata but his brain is telling him to get the BRZ. Been there, its fight you ain't going to win. I can't believe the decision for a $30K car comes down to Android Auto retrofit??? it's just a subconscious stalling tactic. Dude, paralysis by analysis only brings more pain. Buying either one should be a happy decision, not a agonizing one.

To be clear my personal opinion is that age has nothing to do with attitudes here. There are just as many older snowflakes as there are younger ones.
Oh, @Jordanwolf is OK. He just has "special needs", that we just don't understand.

It's dead on when calculating sugar ratios for maple syrup though, so you guys should definitely stick with it.

Not doing that is easy.

I get 4,480 rods-per-gallon. 40 rods to a hogshead (63 gallons) would be some poor mileage.

Yep and even if it wasn't it isn't a huge deal. It is a fraction of a second not the several seconds that it is often stated to be.

I have a 2nd gen tacoma also. That thing makes a damn good amount of mid range torque. Day to day driving the truck only revs to about 2.5k before shifting. Usually less if I'm not in a hurry. Merging is basically effortless. The twins are completely different. If a merge ramp is short AND uphill...you HAVE to rev the piss out of it. If you dont you will slow down traffic by not speeding up in time for the merge. If you're noticing that torque dip already, it will annoy the shit out of you later on in ownership. Driving in California like us, trust me you'll definitely notice the lack of low and midrange power. I daily both a frs and a 4.0 tacoma so I would say I know these two vehicles pretty well. If I could do it over, I probably wouldn't buy a twin again. If you see yourself being happy with a stock brz in 3 years, get it. If not, then get the mx5.

If you keep analyzing and thinking "I don't like the 86 because it has a torque dip... and I can't buy the Miata because it has no storage room", you wont need a car in 3 year, you probably end up going insane

I considered (but didn't test drive) the 2018 miata before buying my BRZ, but it was too much of a compromise as a daily driver. I wanted the Brembo/recaro package and that just made the price difference too much. I bought the BRZ knowing it was lacking in torque but I figured for the price difference I could swap in a header and add a flex kit.

Yes I'm in California, but I don't see swapping and reflashing the car to stock in 6 years as a big deal. Even once I have to smog every 2 it doesn't seem so bad, I can just combine it with a routine oil change/maintenance check.

If I had a reliable second car and could afford the Miata as a toy I would have done that. But my current daily driver while fairly reliable thus far, could just as easily turn on me one of these days, so I bought the BRZ knowing it could eventually become my only car. To date I am totally happy with my purchase and I haven't even installed my header yet.
