I used to set an alert on the knock channels on the OFT and it almost always detects a bit of knock if you floor it at less than around 3500rpm unless you are on e85.

If you do it a lot, then the IAM will drop below 1.0, pulling timing across the whole rev range which reduces your power. It takes a bit of knock free driving to bring it back up to 1.0.

So it's best to downshift if you need to pick up some speed if you aren't in the powerband.
Thank you! This is excellent info. I have always noted the unpleasant sound at low revs and have learned not to load up the engine at low revs. I rather downshift. This confirmed my suspicions.

Ha, this has been happening to me too. I thought I was losing my mind. I wish these seats would go lower.

Weird - I am pumped all the way up and have to give it an extra half pump every week or so.

It seriously feels like somebody is fucking with me. Just after a bit I think "why are my knees closer to the steering column?" then realize the seat has raised itself up a bit. Nobody else drives the car, does it all on its own.

I sometimes have a metal clang sound coming from rear when going over a sharp bump, I'm guessing it's rear brake dust shields? I'm relatively new to these cars, is this a common issue?

I mean, how fast were you going? How high was the bump? As far as I can tell from mine, no, it should not clang. Are you sure it wasn't the car bottoming and the "bump" bouncing off your exhaust?

I noticed this too. I did put a spare tire in the trunk instead of that foam organizer and inside the spare tire I put the tire fix kit and some tools/nuts from winter tires. I tried taking the stuff out and the noise seemed to be much less, so I am convinced it was the stuff bouncing in my trunk.

I think the jack in the trunk also could be making a bit of noise because its pretty loose in its location

this isn't a one time issue, I've heard it occasionally since early on, around 25 mph on uneven/bumpy road sections. The car is stock except for HKS Spec L2 catback, it's not lowered.

Has the noise coincided with the installation of the L2? There's a good indicator and clue to investigate.

Check for clearance between the rear subframe and the exhaust pipe

Or better yet, get under the rear and push the exhaust upward as hard as you can near the rear subframe/diff

Exhaust might be making contact

nope it was happening before the new exhaust but I'll double check clearances again

How worried are you all about RTV and silicone in the oil pick up?

10 being extreme worry, like a 4. I just ordered an endoscope so I'm going to check when I do my oil change next weekend. If no excess, then in my head, likely everywhere else has correct amount and no longer need to worry. And I can continue adding my STI pieces, short throw, etc and finally ceramic coat the car.
