do you normally cruise in 3rd like that? just curious. i feel the motor gets a little whiney to maintain a constant speed at high revs.

or it's just my boredom kicking in, and when i go longer than 10 seconds in any gear, feel the desperate need to change to satisfy my own desire to be doing something.

With that said, time for a next blacksmith project. This time around, it’s Talisman sword for my daughter. It’s due early March, so I gotta finish it quickly, but gotta make sure to do it correctly. Never done short sword/tanto, so interested to see how far I can do it.
Damn you are getting good at that. I cut some blanks to make a hunting knife but I have.......misplaced them I guess I will have to dig through the 2 tons of scrap I have and cut some more pieces.

Thanks! Those are knife #6 & #7. I still got long way to go. Local blacksmith has won Forge & Fire (show I still haven’t seen). He makes ridiculously good knives. Of course, that’s why his knives sells instantly lol

At least you got free scrap metals to make more... metals ain’t cheap. Correction, metal aren’t expensive, they’re damn expensive to ship! lol

Yeah, I know what I have(5160H) is not the easiest to work with but who cares when it is free.

At least 5160 the most of the process is same as 1080, 1095, 80crv2 or 15n20. Just few extra steps... but that could said the same for all the metals.

Nice! I also have a 2006 Ridgeline with 213000 miles that I bought in 2005. It's been the best vehicle I have ever had.

It has a rebuilt title now though, which is why I didn't trade it in either.

Yay! Two Ridgelines!

Edit: pic.

Every year we rack up is a little shorter than the previous in the context of our life experience. @humfrz years are probably like his naps.

It's a carryover from my motocross days. At some point I realized how closely I tied running in the power band to "going fast." I made it a point to practice riding/driving at high rpm smoothly without a hint of aggression. The payoff was huge. I got MUCH smoother and more relaxed. Double clutching downshifts and gentle upshifts are key for syncro preservation because the input speed delta is huge (for street gearing).

Try it! It's super hard at first to keep in mind "I'm not racing. I'm not racing."

But, no. I don't normally cruise like that, and I wouldn't do it for any length of time without an oil cooler.

i ran a version of the water cup for years before i knew about initial d. always felt a need to have something hang off the rearview mirror, so over the years it progressed from items like hats to a simple necklace and charm.

it works wonders to have something in my line of sight that rough inputs will disturb. it gets unsettled more now, being that i take a pickup truck to work during the week and leave the car for weekend play. but when i drove the car every day, it made a huge difference in my overall smoothness.
