A 2014 model year car with only 13,000 miles -

The switch is most likely stuck because of inactivity and then when you left the door open for an hour, it just couldn't handle the stress. -

Ho's right. It's the door switch. Look at you door indicator on the cluster I bet it works for your passenger door just fine but never senses your driver-side door opening.

you are correct.. almost. The wire fell out of the back of the door switch. plugged it back it. everything works as it should again
