Sounds like you have a nice Dad.

Well, looking on the brighter side, the crankcase got "flushed"; the oil soaked kitty litter could be spread on the gravel road to keep the dust down; the oil soaked rags could be used to make torches.

I won't mention the time I went to change the crankcase oil in my grandfathers relatively new Oldsmobile and drained the oil out of the automatic transmission all over the driveway. Damn, the sump on that transmission looked just like the sump on the engine. Hey, back in the 40s, I never ever heard of an automatic transmission before, let alone see one!

Yep, in California, it most likely have qualified as an EPA super-fund site -

Are you saying it's ok to pump it out of the ground but we can't put it back?

But, but, but, when the oil was waaay down in the ground, it never hurt the environment.

When it is scattered all over your driveway and you try to wash it off, it hurts the vegetation it comes in contact with, it contaminates ant hills, thus killing them, all the microflora in the area is set out of balance, the bugs get oil on them and the song birds get sick from eating oil covered bugs, it contaminates the water and kills mosquito larvae, kids playing in the street gutters get oil all over them and then there is this whole bio-magnification thing and the oil winds up in fish that people eat - eating too much oily fish is not good for the human body and people can die from heart attacks.

All because of YOU - dumping oil in your driveway - SMH - how do you sleep at night?

Time for my 2 aspirin, 2 tylenol, 2 oxycodone and a sleeping pill - I sleep just fine.

Then either fix it yourself or pay a shop to put it back together.

Let me see, which one? I'll pick the most recent.

It was a fine spring weekday, when my daughter (just turned 16 and just got her drivers license) headed to HS, driving the car (a 1979 Chevrolet Caprice) that I had given to her for her 16th birthday. Yep, it was a 4 door tank, with new brakes and tires and a tape deck, that I installed for her so would drive the car.

A few minutes after she left, the door bell rang and there she stood in tears. I asked her what was wrong - she said "I just wrecked my car".

Sure enough, just down the street, while putting a new tape in the tape deck, she ran into the back of a parked car. I made her go up to that house, wake up the people and tell them what had happened, while I examined the car.

We returned to our house and retrieved a 8' length of 2"x4" and a crowbar and did enough body work to get the car back home.

The next day, after she calmed down, she asked "how are we going to fix the car"? I said to her - no, it's how are you going to fix the car.

That weekend I fired up my pickup truck, loaded her up, with a handful of tools, and off we went to this large junk yard out on the outskirts of town.

We pulled up and went inside the "office" and I made her do the talking, I just stood in the background. Now, understand, she was a fine looking 16 year old girl that was (still is fine looking) and shall we say, well endowed.

The two young men in the office scrambled to see which one was going to help this poor girl in distress. They escorted her (I followed at a distance) out into the junk yard and found a few wrecked 1979 Chevrolets. She knew what parts she needed (hood, right front fender, grill, and some trim pieces). The young man helped her remove the pieces and motioned for me to bring up my truck to load them up.

We got back to the "office" and she leaned over the counter and ask them how much did she owed them? The older one said "no charge, little miss, if you find out you need anything else, you just come back and see us".

OK, now, her car was off beside the garage and she proceeded to remove the damaged pieces and install the "new" ones - all by herself (using my tools). After the next weekend, she had it all fixed up - except for painting. I ran her up to the hardware store and she selected a few spray cans of paint that looked like they would match. She did the sanding, sprayed the primer and two coats of paint.

Good job, I said - she was proud -

THE END

(well, you did ask for it - )

Well, OK, then, just for @Koa , a new one (I think ??).

It was a hot, hazy, humid day in Missouri. I needed a part (transmission linkage) for my 1956 Ford pick-up truck. I had noticed a few old pickup trucks in the field (junk yard) behind this old farm house, way out in the country.

So, armed with a handful of tools, I approached the farm house and beat on the door, but the old fart wasn’t home, at least he wasn’t coming to the door. Now, since I had met him before, I figured I’d just go on back and take off the linkage I needed and leave him some money on his back porch.

I went on back through the waist high weeds, in the heat and humidity, and took off the parts. So far, so good – right? Not so fast, as I was approaching the back of the house, with parts in hand, I heard a series of low growls.

There they were, two, large, black, “junk yard” dogs, German shepherd types. I tried to ease by them, but with each step, they growled louder and started to show their teeth, one got up on it haunches.

I slowly put the parts on the ground, raised and out stretched my arms and slowly, while maintaining eye contact, eased on by them to the safety of my truck.

THE END

yeah, the only saving grace was i saw she wasn't stopping and slammed on the brakes. doing so caused me to t-bone her and put the car into the front yard. had i not braked, my car would have ended up getting t-boned straight into that light pole.

i bought another brz as soon as i had the insurance check. same options, same color. i didn't want anything different, and still don't. going on 5 years now with this one, which is really weird for me, i used to get bored with cars and change them out every 1-2 years.
