I don't think Subaru ever wanted to make the 86. It's too far from their market but Toyota has such a high stake in Subaru.

Now rumors are Toyota is trying to push Subaru to make a smaller wrx to join WRC and compete against their Yaris GRMN.

(Infinite possibilities)

Still results in 100% chance of cancellation of the model. Short of getting into theology there is no scenario that can be proposed where the end result is not the cancellation of the model. And we wouldn't know when.

Do WRC rules still require transverse mount inline 4 drivetrain? That would prevent Subaru from getting back into it (unless, or course, they rebadged a Mazda 2 or Yaris).

Not all ends are cancellations.

I believe 1.6 liter is the engine regulation and Subaru has an FB16F. I dont think engine layout is regulated. I honestly don't see it happening but I was just pointing out toyota has other plans and killing the twins isn't so far-fetched. Hell the new corolla hatch is coming with a rev matching stick.

For some reason I was thinking that the gearbox and AWD were spec which would mean transverse and a flat engine couldn’t physically fit. It’s been a while since I followed WRC and the rule changes.

This was inevitable
The 86 was the most misunderstood and mismarketed car of all time.

Even most 86 owners don't get it.
Fools blab on about turbo and mods from day one.

They need a Mustang GT
or any of the other DOZENS of cars out there with massive engines.
Go buy one of those! The BRZ was never meant for you.

Sadly, most car guys are morons.
They mod the crap out of it trying to make it something it's not supposed to be

There is simply no other car like it in the market today.
I plan on driving mine forever.
I'm glad I got mine and hope parts don't disappear.

RIP.

You're right... but I still think the car need mods to fix that bloody torque dip.

0-60 in less than 2 seconds.

And by that time every other car will be 0-60 in less than 1

So its still going to be a slow car that can be beating by minivans.
