Selling for the looks alone? Have you not seen the handling???

If you can't decide between a sports car and an accord, it might not be for you. Just saying.

If you're comparing against an Accord in the first place, and you think these cars are selling for looks alone, I'm not sure you understand what the FR-S is. I think you would be much happier with the Accord and its creature comforts.

I was gonna write a long response, but i'll just agree with this. Seems like you'd be happier with the more comfortable ride of the Accord.

That's incredible when you think about it. Nissan only sold 251,410 240sx's from 1989-90.

Nick C.

No the 240sx took off like a rocket ship then sizzled in the usa , pretty sure they sold close to 70k units domestically the 89-90. Toyota seeing the same thing could happen with the frz. As far as the dual overhead s14 refresh it did nothing to help the truck motor actually made a tad more sluggish.

It's the same general architecture and any packaging issues and such with that engine can't possibly insurmountable. Plus they get economies of scale by sharing the engine across both platforms.

No brainer really.

Absolutely tru, they can use a different turbo and tune so they don't have to add money to the clutch/tranny/driveshafts. Similar engine is in the Forester.

A turbo Limited BRZ would easily hit $32K I suspect. I am sure they would have to modify the FA20 in the WRX to fit the BRZ, and then there is a host of other changes you would most liklely have to make to support the additional horsepower and torque and still maintain the warranty.
.

Wrong just wrong IMHO. The could sell a FA20T version with a smaller turbo and lighter tune for the same invoice. The Forester and Avo have proved this.

The obstacle isn't pricing its Tada. He has repeatedly said he dislikes turbos and won't put one in this car.

More likely we will see an positive disp. eaton type supercharger similar to the lotus Elise, and that will price it out of the market. Best thing they could do is fire Tada.

Most likely, based on my sources, this is what they will be going for. I talked to Tadasonzo myself recently. In person. And he literally said, "86_truck" and walked away flapping his hands like bird wings. A pure genius

The loss of the Ford Ranger in the USA left a huge hole, it was the modern el camino. The average Joe who wanted a small rwd car bought a Ranger. I think this could be a very likely scenario, Scion could sell hundreds of thousands of these. Talk about bringing the aftermarket down to from the over-pricing. I like it.

A link to his facebook page might have been useful, just saying like .

As for an update; Toyota usually do a major update every 4 to 5 years on the more popular cars. We are either looking at mid term cosmetic changes or something unexpected but hopefully most requested - that extra 50hp in some form or another.

$25K worth or TRD parts? That's more than the car costs here.. That's insane..
Didn't think they made 25k worth of TRD parts...

Really? If it wasn't for him we wouldn't have the FR-S in the first place.... OR the new Supra concept

Subaru does not sell cars this way. They don't sell you a faster/sportier version of the same car for the same price as the base model. The Forester XT is a $3K premium over the Forester Premium non-turbo. The base WRX STI is over an $8K premium over the WRX Premium model.

If they sell an STI version of the BRZ it would most likely be similar to the WRX in that it would be an STI version with badges, BBS wheels, turbo, etc. Expect a $6-8K premium over a BRZ Premium.

I just don't see Subaru giving you an upgraded engine and other components for no extra charge vs the base model. Unless you are implying they would only sell a turbo variant and would kill off the NA FA20 version. Which I just don't see because they also wanted to sell these cars for $25K and that 100% will not happen with a turbo engine.

As for Tada not wanting a turbo, I think that was true with the launch of the car but we have recent quotes from him saying that they are testing a more powerful variant of the FT86, and a turbo was an option.

I can tell you, if it wasn't for Tafa-san, 86 wouldn't be existed. He had to go through so much nay sayer to actually get this thing produced.

IF (& just saying "IF") they did take Tada-san out of 86 project, I can promise you 86 will:
1. 86 project will stop & stop manufacturing them.
2. It might get bigger engine, but it'll get heavy comfort car instead of sporty car.
3. Change the drivetrain into FWD.
4. All the above.

Maybe because I've met him in person & had long chat about 86 project & what kind of things it took to make it possible, so maybe I'm bias. IDK only thing I know is, I just want him to keep working on 86 Project & keep up the passion to build this awesome car.

Completely understandable. And I didn't even mention that it burns regular gasoline. lol. So it makes the car feel like a much better value in the long run in that you're not spending more money than normal after the initial purchase. Considering the gas and the "horror stories" in this forum.

And EVEN THEN, I'm STILL going to the Scion dealership to test drive it before I go to the Honda or any other dealership first because they were first and I LOVED this car from the first day I laid eyes on it. I would still get this car ONLY if they can give me the monogram at the normal monogram price, BUT add in the fog lights free of charge during negotiations. And even then it's still not a better value (price and features wise), I still would rather give them the sell over Honda out of pure loyalty. It would be nice if the 2015 Ford Mustang was already out...lol. My Scion tC is having major brake problems (BRAKE LIGHT) right now and I'm not trying to put anymore money into it when I want a new car ASAP. I already took it to the dealership to fix it. Still comes on two days after they fixed it.
