Looks pretty sweet being fully painted. Wanna see what it looks like in red without the black roof

Patent images leaked a month or 2 ago show a lot of what we're seeing in the flesh here (for example the driver assistance sensor in the grille, front and rear sensors on the bumpers, side reflectors, etc. Also notice the air bag warning labels)

  • These cars are most likely going to automotive journalist outlets then being toured around the US this summer.

I'm thinking this car looks a lot better in person than it does in photos. The hood appears to have some interesting design elements in it that the photos are hiding (see the silver one above).

Frankly, I still think it's generically ugly, but I can see why some people would be attracted to it. A different color, or perhaps some accenting in the paint at just the right locations, would go a long way to improving it's looks.

I think the car looks great, and will be a blast to drive. Depending on how it's priced, it could give Subaru some worries with the second gen BRZ. A relatively simple, RWD sports car with a manual transmission and 400 hp (or more), probably priced in the low $40's. If it drives as well as it looks and the specs sound - and the biggest if, if I can find a Nissan dealer who's not completely sleazy and greedy - I'm in.

There will be the usual internet whiners and complainers. So many people on so many car sites grouse about wanting a simple, "pure" sports car, not too expensive, not overwrought styling or too much "tech', manual transmission, good power, and not too expensive. They bemoaned the loss of the sports cars of the not-too-distant past. Nissan continued to build the 370Z, and those same people derided it for being 'too old' and complained about the 'dated infotainment system'. I think most of those people don't buy new cars anyway, so it shouldn't be an issue for the 400Z.

The 400Z is the opposite of the Supra. Subtle styling instead of overdone, manual vs. automatic transmission, simpler vs. more complicated. It's a breath of fresh air, and just might, hopefully, be the jolt to spark walking dead Nissan back to life.

I am having a very hard time liking this front end, but I do think that it looks unique here.

I just want to get one for a drive because if pricing is anything like the outgoing, it will be competitive.

Great to see some photos! My high hopes for this car remain!

Sidenote: what's up with the giant fuel filler door? Seriously it's huge.

They had to make room for the fuel filler and charging port...

I'll see myself out.
