Contemplating LS swap, brakes to suit the package?
Going the l33 route.
Stock aluminum l33, meziere electric water pump, EPAS retained as well, 25% UDP, LS6 intake and cam, t56 magnum xl. Should be right at a conservative 400bhp around 6200ish rpm (350rwhp). Now onto the brakes. Been looking at ap racing standard 4/6 pot, radi-cal 4 pot, stoptech, wilwood. What would you say would be a good match for the car? Aiming for purely function over anything and weight reduction would be a plus. Price isn't really a factor. |

If you're doing a no-expense-spared V8 swap, you should also give the brakes the same consideration.

Tire: 255/40/17 re-71r's. More of a track day toy and occasional daily driver.
What does everybody think of the Stillen AP brakes? Supposedly they are touted for their forged rigid body, light weight, and high thermal capacity. But, i've never seen anybody actually use them. Anybody know specific weight reduction for each kit? How does everybody feel about just the front kit, versus kits that offer front and rear? Seems like the replacing the rears isn't absolutely necessary since majority of braking is done at the front of the car. Also looking for a kit where i can just pull the pin and swap brake pads in and out easily. |

Your best bet is our front Essex/AP Racing Endurance Competition BBK. We have plenty of customers running 350+RWHP on our smaller Sprint Kit (299mm disc), but the larger disc in the Endurance Kit is going to give you greater headroom for future modifications to the car. You'd be able to turbo the LS and still not have to worry about your brakes. Our Endurance kit uses a wicked 325x32mm, 72 vane AP Racing J Hook. That disc actually has the same mass as our larger 355x32mm discs, and packs the biggest punch you can cram into a small space. We have those 325mm discs and our CP8350 calipers on plenty of 500-600HP Corvettes, Evos, etc. without issues. It is an extremely stout setup. Below are a couple examples of very fast, heavier cars, with big, sticky tires winning with our CP8350 calipers and 325x32mm discs:
C5Z06 wins 12 events in one year SCCA Regional Championship on C5Z06 E46 M3 Evo winning regional TT events Winning NASA Super Touring Races in Evo Track record on Evo with 497HP/471 torque Again, all of the above are running our CP8350 and 325x32mm disc. You absolutely don't need anything larger or heavier than that. A couple of the really killer features:
The rear brakes typically aren't problematic on these cars, even with significant power upgrades, swaps, etc. Your far better off installing the best front BBK you can afford, which is what I believe we offer. Our front kit is designed to properly integrate with the OEM master cylinder and rear brakes, and will integrate seamlessly with ABS while maintaining proper brake bias/balance. Check out our blog for owner reviews...many of the customer reviews on our Evo, STI, M3, and Corvette kits are in reference to a kit that contains the same CP8350 caliper and 325x32mm disc in our Endurance Kit. In terms of bang for the buck and future headroom, it will have you covered in spades. You mentioned pure function, and that's what our kits are all about. Our Essex Designed Competition Kits are designed with the sole purpose of helping you go faster, for longer, without issue, for less money in the long-run. Here's our duct...all billet aluminum. It's a killer piece and a huge value to be included in the kit price. We also offer excellent customer support, lots of spares on hand, and will jump through hoops to help you out if you need it. Thanks, and feel free to PM, email, or call me at any time. Here's one of our customers with the Endurance Kit tearing up the Nurburgring Last edited by JRitt; 03-04-2016 at 02:28 PM. |

I agree^.
I'm definitely sold on the function, and size of these brakes. Looks like 12.8" x 1.25" rotors are a great package to work with. Still stock piling parts until i can line up a swap kit from a company still working on their kit, so i was wondering if you guys run any sales throughout the year? Not in a rush at the moment so i figured I'd ask. |
