30 fps video, the number changes every 12 frames (400 ms)
=> 2.5 Hz refresh rate.

The tachometer seems to be fairly responsive though

It might be harder than necessary to quickly glance at it.
I wish it had darker bars for x000 rpms, and maybe even x500 rpm's too.

I'm curious to see how it works in practice though.

Someone complained to me about this thing, and out of curiosity we ended up pixel peeping at one of my recent track onboards. I always spend a little extra time to make sure my data is frame-precise aligned with the video by aligning the actual steering wheel angle with the steering wheel angle data.

We were able to find an example where the speedometer was 15 mph behind the speed reported on the CAN bus under ~1G braking:
