Changed to new wheels w/o TPMS, car still thinks I have TPMS sensors?

I'm now using new wheels w/snow tires and didn't bother buying a new set of sensors for these wheels. The odd thing is that my FR-S which is listed to include TPMS in my country, doesn't fire off a warning that I have no TPMS?

Technically I shouldn't be complaining that I don't have to cover up the nag light, but I'm concerned about the system working. Has anyone else experienced this?

FYI, the original wheels are in the same garage with the car overnight, but I have gone up to 12 hours away from home in a day and still no light.

I'd imagine the TPMS doesn't fire off a bad signal unless pressure is too low. So test it out and bleed out one of the stock wheels and see if the light pops up then.

Interesting, so whether the TPMS sensor is there or not, it may not matter until one sends a low pressure signal.

I swapped to winter rims/tires last Friday and took a drive that night and the TPMS light went on after about 20 miles so it does matter if the TPMS sensor is not there. Honestly though, even with the light on, it only was annoying when it was blinking. Once it went solid, I didn't even notice it.

This has already been covered in other threads but as far as anyone has been able to tell it takes about 30 min of continuous driving out of range of the sensors to trigger the system. The Toyota sensors that are being used don't require wheel rotation to trigger them. They pulse out at a regular interval unless they sense a rapid change of pressure which will cause them to immediately transmit.

If you have the tires stored near the car it's probably just reading them when you first start the car and you're not driving far enough for the system to,notice they are missing. At some point the light will probably come on, but next time you drive it may be off again.

I've been driving my BRZ all summer with aftermarket wheels without tpms, and never had a tpms light...

I know FRS do light up, but I have yet to find a canadian BRZ with a tpms light.

Many will likely say the FR-S/BRZ needs more power and while more wouldn’t hurt, those folks (the same ones who have probably never driven on a track) are missing the point.

Are you sure the Canadian cars come with TPMS then?

If you drive for longer than a 50 mile stint at a time (roughly), the light will come on. When I had my summer wheels on, the light would stay off until I had been driving for more than a short distance.
