FA24 swap to a GT86 ? Anything I need be aware of?
Hello everyone.
A local shop with good reputation here , specified focus on STI , and the twins , shared with me that they will have a FA24 engine soon , and ask me if I am interesting. Surely this bring my attention , but I had never experience a engine swap before , I believe this will also be the first time for the shop to swap a FA24 to a GT86 which runs the FA20. The shop didn't answer me the exactly price yet , but say it should be close with a FI setup. Is there anything I need be aware of? Like any question I should raise with the shop for the discussion? I am also thinking , since there isn't any common turbo or supercharge kit for FA24 on a GT86 , the choice of me to go FI after engine swap will be limited? Any feedback will be kindly appreciate. Thank you very much. |

How does the shop plan to control the engine? How deep are your pockets? This is going to be a pretty expensive project Sent from my ONEPLUS A5010 using Tapatalk |

If this need a deep pockets , it is likely won't fit me taste in terms of cost and performance. (from 2000 to 2400 cc only) (Correct me if I am wrong , if this new FA24 can really make a great difference from FA20) |

It's plausible that some sensors will work as is and some could be switched over from the FA20 to make the new engine run on the only computer. It'll have to be tuned of course. There is another thread about using a fa24 block with FA20 heads in a hybrid configuration where some of this was discussed. You should check it out for info Sent from my ONEPLUS A5010 using Tapatalk |

As said above, engine swaps are never cheap like adding turbo or SC to existing platform and are also hugely complex till there have been a few examples which will go through teething problems.
Adding an Edelbrock will give you more power and torque than FA24 naturally aspirated will ever be able to achieve. It is also a 100% proven mod with very low risk of rod failure. So if if your aim is more power and torque with the feeling of a larger displacement engine, then a PD Supercharger is the way to go not an engine swap. Sent from my SM-G781B using Tapatalk |

The most basic question I'm surprised nobody asked:
Is this a FA24F out of a Subaru Ascent, or a FA24D out of a Subaru BRZ? Because it matters. |

I wouldn't agree to anything unless you can get the price on paper guaranteed.
Otherwise you are at their mercy as things come up and the bill starts to inflate. |

I’m assuming it is a FA24D based on the rest of his comments. He could want to supercharge an engine that is already turbocharged, but I doubt he would, so I’m assuming it is a FA24D.

I'm not sure anyone can actually get an FA24D at this time though. Might be different in OPs location, but I doubt it.

If the shop can do a complete fa24 swap for the cost of F/I(2-5k), I'll ship them my car.. would save me a ton of money, even including shipping costs...

Hello folks
Thanks for all the input shared. It helps. I am less interesting to do the FA24 engine swap for my GT86 now , coz of those budget , effort concern you shared. My initial though is that , maybe a family-engine swap will work out more smoothly and more long term worry-free , and keep all the good character of NA , compare to the after-market FI solution. But now , sounds like , it won't make the job easier. Too bad I don't have the passion and resource for this kind of task. ps: This specified FA24 engine mention here , is from the 2nd generation BRZ |
