Listening to some old tracks from a NC 1960's era band called "The News" that had a couple of dozen regional hits between 1965 and 1970. Why? Because my uncle who passed away yesterday was their Bassist (he's the guy on the left in the first photo in the video).
He was one of the gentlest, sweetest man I've ever known, but was all fire and kick your butte if he needed to be. After the "band broke up" he became a HVAC contractor but music was always his first love. You could usually find him in his basement, hooked up to his big VOX stage speakers and playing the bass lines under some record, or on occasion tuned to a shortwave radio and playing bass to the sounds of a satellite in orbit (no kidding). It's amazing what you can find on the Internet. I found several of the bands records quite by accident that had been posted to YouTube by fans from "back in the day". He nor his family had no idea the still existed. This isn't my favorite, but it is the one with the best photos of the band. When I was little (10 years or less) I went to a couple of their gigs, riding there with my Aunt in their MG Midget. I felt like I was living the rockstar life! Rest in peace, and keep playing, you can never have too much bass.
