Tuned ... Finally!

We've had this car for a year now and we finally got a chance to tune it and add to our video series.

Here are the results:

Those are crazy looking headers.

Looks like it reduces the torque dip and adds power elsewhere. Will be great to tune on top of that.

Great video and thanks for sharing your knowledge with the community @Strat_FRS

Both e85 and the header provided a nice gain, but the gains don't seem to stack unlike the first gen.

In terms of how the ECU works, are you seeing much difference in the second gen vs the first gen? I saw someone mentioned that the knock detection has been improved? What are you seeing?

Yeah that is what the HKS GT-Spec headers did for my first gen, especially after a tune. I can only imagine the extra bump up in power and torque for the 2nd gen, it’ll be a reasonably quick car.

The strategies used are very familiar in terms of what Subaru has been doing for years on this platform and their turbo platforms. It definitely looks like from the factory they were quite a bit more aggressive in the calibration than what we have seen in the past and this is why the gains don't quite stack like they used to.

Of course the more parts you add, the more you deviate from what the calibration was designed for and the more you benefit from tuning.

We have a set of Tomei headers we tried on the stock tune and they added a bit torque dip. I am debating if we should put those back on and tune or get a different header on there that is equal length and popular for the platform to dial in.

It's easy for me to spend your money but I'd like to see what you could do with equal length. I'm expecting 230 whp give or take to be the ceiling. I wonder what intake spacers would do?

Going to do another tuned equal length test but which header.

The new HKS EL ones, since they look quite different to last gen headers. Maybe they are more optimised for this gen.

The Tomei headers have smaller runners than stock 2nd gen, IIRC, which would definitely lead to the current header dyno not looking all that amazing up top.
