These k swap cars are SO fun to drive. If you can get them to the point they're reliable, that is. Sorry to hear there's yet another issue to deal with. Ugh.

Its not all that surprising as the OEM selector rod is pretty robust. I bet it sees some pretty substantial shock loads.

My original plan was to cut and weld the OEM one. I ended up buying the kpower one but maybe I'll stick with my plan and keep the kpower one as a spare.

Once again, thanks for posting!

I kinda think the OEM one cut and welded is the right way to go over the KPower one. I'm going to look at making some bushings to fix the issue with the KPower piece; seems you'd want to cut the rim off off or remove the stock plastic inserts and make bronze bushings that slide in from the inside that also takes up the extra space between the selector rod and what it is meant to attach to.

Are you using the OEM shifter or an aftermarket one?

Alright - on Saturday I tried running the same tires from High Plains Raceway. Ended up lowering the front of the car a bit, played with the knobs, and swapped the front tires to the rear.

I ended up in second place in TT5 by .1 second with a 1:49:049, but each change I made session to session had me doing similar lap times, which is a pretty big deal when ambient temp fluctuates from 70f from the first session to >100f by the third session.

Last night I went over the AIM data and decided I was being a pansy so I bolted on a new set of RC1s this morning and decided to send it lap one session one. The balance of the car was basically complete transformed with a set of tires that hadn't been heat cycled to death, go figure.

The car pretty much felt perfect and I cannot convey clearly enough how well the Xidas soak up curbs even when you're being an idiot in terms of curb aggression and the damping set fairly stiff.

AIM predictive timing wasn't working since it was the first lap of the day, but a 1:46:42 popped up on the timer so I headed right in to claim it. The previous TT5 lap record was a 1:48:340, my AMB official time was a 1:46:361. Took the TT5 win today also.

I see improvements to be made in the lap, but overall I'm incredibly happy with how it worked out - I was expecting a low 1:47.

For what it is worth, I never ran the car sorted with the supercharged FA20 but the pretty trash laps I did here while the car was making ~350whp were in the 1:45s. 1:45 was also as quick as I went in my TT4 Miata. 1:48 was as quick as I ever managed in my S2000 and I was incredibly comfortable in that car.

I take this all as a pretty positive sign as far as beginning to be more comfortable with the car. Next two events are at Attessa in a few weeks, we shall see how it goes. KINDA tempted to try a set of Toyo RRs.

edit: Also, jesus, I really need to get a GoPro since this AIM video quality is dumpster tier.

The newer smarty cams are 1080p. I mean it’s no go pro but the instant data overlay and race studio support makes it worth the hit in quality if ask me.

Nice work!

As they say, the best camera is the one you'll use. I have a gopro but almost never look at the video because it's such a pain to sync to the data. That's truly the only selling point to the smarty cam...it certainly isn't video quality, and it definitely isn't price.

I had the SmartyCam 2.1 HD before this; I only picked up the Corsa since a friend bought it, decided he didn't like the 67* FOV, realized the FOV can't be changed without buying another entire SmartyCam, and offered it to me for a great price.

After a weekend with the SC3 Corsa I like it a lot - the video quality is very much improved. It's also super nice to be able to download the videos off the camera, add them in RS3, and have all of the data alongside the video and broken into individual laps to compare.

The new overlays are nice, but I feel like the G-plot updates slower than on the SC2 and the delta / delta to fastest lap need some work since it resets every session and doesn't start until the second full lap, which is pretty damn annoying.

I didn't bother chopping up my fastest lap from this past weekend since it didn't feel that great, though it was good enough for a new TT5 record by a little over a second. Here is some example video from another session from when I was getting disappeared by BTR Justin in his TT4 M3 though.

Couple pics from the weekend.

There was only one other guy in TT5 this weekend since comp school was going on, but I dropped the TT5 record by a little over a second for Podium Club @ Attesa CW to 1:43.5. I felt like I was a second or two off pace of where I should have been.

The car seems overly tire and setup sensitive to me, so I'm making a couple of changes to try and help that. I feel like I've been a day or two behind in realizing what is going on with the car setup wise for whatever reason, ideally I wouldn't have to screw with it at all and I'd just drive the car.

Currently on 500/600 springs, 22mm Perrin front bar on full soft and Mann Engineering 13mm rear on full stiff. After doing a bit of thinking I'm going to 450lb springs up front and a Karcepts rear bar.

Karcepts doesn't list that he sells a rear bar yet, but he sent me this:

And here we go

I think this should make for a decent improvement on where I am now, we will see in a few weeks.

I also ended up getting a CanChecked MCE18 so I can add a few more inputs to the Haltech. You wire the thing to the Haltech CAN network and it emulates a Haltech IO Expander. ProWire AMP SuperSeal solid pins are super nice to work with compared to the annoying crimp style pins too. First thing I added was a fuel pressure / fuel temp sensor, next I'm going to be adding a transmission temperature sensor and very likely a transmission cooler.

Last NASA event of the season is December 9th, but I'm hoping I can find something else later in the month. I tried signing up for the 12/2 and 12/3 86Cup events at Chuckwalla a month ago but never made it off the waitlist, apparently motor swapped cars can't even class into Unlimited with 86Cup so no reason to take up a driver spot anyway.

Regional TT5 championship win is wrapped up and in the bag, along with a total of 7 Arizona region TT5 track records and another two NASA SoCal (by association) TT5 records. I guess I'm going to leave the car in TT5 spec until Utah nationals, we shall see, I have a few ideas on things to change but I guess it depends on what NASA does rule change wise for 2024.

Arizona Motorsports Park CW - 1:46.361
Arizona Motorsports Park CCW - 1:47.747 (Should hopefully go lower on Dec 9, CCW is usually half a second to a second quicker than CW)
Chuckwalla Valley Raceway CW - 1:58.709 (NASA AZ + SoCal)
Chuckwalla Valley Raceway CCW - 1:58.277 (NASA AZ + SoCal)
Podium Club @ Attesa CW - 1:43.578
Podium Club @ Attesa CCW - 1:41.579
Wild Horse Pass East - 1:02.144

great stuff as always and yeah your overlay seems slow, One thing I noticed is your G meter like mine seems "inverted".

Like I think the G meter ball should go the opposite way of the car movement in turns.

Helluva season, and so much more to go. Congrats on the success. I'm interested to see what you come up with for a tranny cooler. I was told to do it "right" it would be several thousand dollars.
