Hopefully they are following the factory service manual word for word. But yes, experience goes a long way.

This thread is scaring me...my FR-S will be here in a few weeks.

Also, why does my VIN look so odd compared to the list?

Last 6 of mine: 35AMXX

Scion dealer just informed me that they ordered parts to fix code 0019, gonna take a few weeks. I called my Scion agent handling my case. I expressed my concern about Scion mechanics not having any experience working on boxer engines like Subaru. He told me corporate was working with dealership. I told him I paid for new car but got a repaired car. I suggested an extended would make me feel more comfortable about keeping car. He told me he would push for extended warranty. Maybe others need to contact Scion to force them to offer extended warranty on repaired engines.

That would be a no-duh for me. Something along the lines of "You're giving me an extending warranty or a new car, take your pick."

Took mine to the dealer today. There are 4 other FR-S in with the same problem. One of the service advisors has his FR-S in for the same problem. Sounds like it's at least 2-3 weeks for a cam gear and new ECU to be shipped out.

Update ft Myers Toyota just called me to let me know they replaced the two cam position sensors and took her out for a ride. Light shut off all was great till they parked and it turned back on . They also stated they escalated through the tech support lines since this car is so new to them. They tried a few different things but still not fixing the issue.

A side note yesterday before I dropped the car off. at idle the car was shaking almost stalling idle jumped up ( car still shaking) rinse and repeat. I was at my local home depot parking lot people all looking at the car since they " never" saw one before and I felt like an idiot. The worst part was some load knocking sound coming from the engine sounded Terrible.

Thanks will update when I find out anything new FYI I was number 28 on the list if u need to see my vin number thank you.

Thats exactly what I am worry about local Scion dealer experimenting replacing parts using my car as a guinea pig. Maybe I should have parked car at home till Toyota has fix. TN. lemon law require 4 repairs or 30 days in shop first year warranty, so I wanted 30 day period to start waiting on parts just in case I need to resort to lemon law.

POSTING RULES
While this idle issue may manifest itself as an initial dip, please only add your name if you have experienced a combination of the check engine light (CEL) and slip light (SL) in addition to the RPM hunting at idle (often severe shaking and stalling). The code your ECU should have stored is P0019 (also optional P0017, P0018).

Please post the following:
username, FR-S or BRZ, mileage of occurrence, last six of VIN (use XX for last two), duration of repair [3 weeks, in shop, etc.], location [state, country, etc.], other comments [repeat occurrence, items replaced, etc.]

Please let me know if you would like to see additional information. Also, please keep the postings on topic and for the list only. The "Idle Issue" thread is good for general discussion. Thanks everyone.

Note, if you want your name removed, let me know.

Well another update got a call little over an hour ago. They will need the car now for multiple days. I was then told they new to pull the motor apart and do " a stress test" on certain components. Can someone explain what the hell that means? Is my motor literally in pieces all over their garage? Either way I'm a little upset with this whole ordeal; from the dealer screwing me 1600$ (almost got away with that too) and now this. Ug will update tomorrow when I go talk to the mechanic.

Traction light turned off this evening.

Eventually CEL dissappeared, but then noticed very rough idle while at a stop and got Flashing CEL.

Car is now at dealership.

Using intuition and my educational background so far... (mechanical engineering).... I would think they would subject components of the engine ( the cam gears/oil valve) to loads until they fail... (to see at what stresses/forces/#cycles these things fail). I believe what they want to see is if the materials used are on par with specifications (If they are not it might result in recall/lawsuits/legal action)... as materials in your car should have a certain critical stress force/# cycles at which they fail... its just that these specs shoudl be up to par with whatever they were planned out to be for the car in the first place.

I would think this would involve fatigue testing (repeatedly applying load/given stress to gear and counting # cycles until failure) for the cam gears.. plus other tests (there are many types of tests that can be generalized as stress tests)

If this is the case they are providing you with new parts... but I also understand them doing post production quality checks on your brand new car is nowhere near reassuring...especially if this is as widespread of an issue (50-60 members on this board alone have reported)... you'd expect engineers to do their job before ever selling anything
