The problem is the machine and condition is still exhausting. There is a high incidence of fatiguing out. Then the patient isn’t breathing enough on their own, and we intubate. I’ve seen it plenty of times. This happens when someone isn’t hypotensive and sat’ing in the low 90’s, so her lack of real improvement is concerning.
Are you a physician?

I remember reading an earlier study suggesting a very high correlation of PE with covid, still the case or not so much?

The fatal incident is not Tucker’s first encounter with the criminal justice system. DeKalb jail records indicate he has been arrested numerous times in the past decade on misdemeanor charges ranging from driving under the influence to family violence.

In May 2018, Tucker was arrested on multiple charges, including cruelty to children and battery related to family violence, DeKalb jail records show.

The details of the incident that led to those charges aren’t clear, but according to DeKalb court records, he was sentenced to two years on probation after pleading guilty to simple battery and battery. The third-degree cruelty to children charge was dismissed, along with one count of obstruction of law enforcement and one count of battery.

He was also ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation, attend parenting classes and have no contact with the victims until those classes were complete.

In February of the previous year, he was arrested on a count of felony terroristic threats and acts, jail records show. Records indicate the case was dismissed.

On June 13, 2012, Tucker was arrested by DeKalb police on a misdemeanor count of battery, jail records show. According to court records, he was sentenced to a year on probation and six anger management classes, along with a fee.

In better news, Maryland is ending it's state of emergency.
For me, that just means I have to get my car emissions tested every year again.

https://wtop.com/maryland/2021/06/go...ll-end-july-1/

Some metrics of note:
Quote:
Seventy-two percent of Maryland adults have been vaccinated against COVID-19, Hogan told reporters, and the positivity rate has fallen below 1%.

The governor made the announcement as health metrics continue to improve in the state. In January, hospitalizations for COVID-19 in Maryland nearly reached, 2,000, but on Tuesday they were below 200 — the lowest since March of 2020.

One gripe I have with this is that a few recent studies show covid-19 infection to be as effective as mitigating reinfection as vaccination, So IMO a previous diagnosis of covid-19 should be treated as equivalent to vaccination. I could totally see someone not wanting to be vaccinated if they have also had covid.

What about the delta variants ?

Is a previous infection of a non-delta as effective as an mRNA injection?

Either way people that work in a hospital really ought to look for employment elsewhere if they provide any resistance IMO.

Even then, I wouldn't want to risk being that one individual who ends up on a ventilator with no known risk factors. I know a few will always chime in a be like, 'I had it in 2019 and had no symptoms' yada yada. But the point still stands. Also I hate being sick in general as it really upsets my fitness routine.

Definitely not a physician. I’m an ED tech with a lot of cross education who is starting nursing school in the fall.

D-dimer test was normal. CTA of the chest was negative.

COVID might have a higher incidence of clots from a combination of incidental behavioral changes where people were home and inactive for a long time in conjunction with eventually getting sick and being bed ridden, but the more reported factors was the development of microclots secondary to inflammation and liver damage.

This young lady’s situation was most likely acute pulmonary fibrosis.

US cases continue to drop.

Quote:
As cases continue to decrease in most regions of the U.S., some states still present concerning trends.

Nationwide, the seven-day average of new daily cases is 12,192, down nearly 16 percent from the previous week, reports the CDC.

However, areas of concern remain.

Below are seven states with the highest rates of new COVID-19 infections per 100,000 people, according to June 17 data from Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins University.

1. Missouri — 14.12 new cases per 100,000 people
2. Utah — 13.34
3. Nevada — 12.21
4. Kansas — 10.96
5. Wyoming — 9.64
6. Arkansas — 9.60
7. Colorado — 8.27

When fear sells, it's hard to get the truth.

The CDC data says that those most vulnerable are elderly and with co-morbidities but when was the last time you heard any mainstream news outlet mention that? Yet generic quarantines don't discriminate between age groups that would've been more effective focused on the elderly instead of schoolchildren.

80% of all deaths occurred in the over 65 population that is 16% of the population. The age 49 and younger death rate is 0.00011%, 90 times less than the elderly group.

There's tremendous progress being made in controlling the Wuhan virus partly due to revealing what works, what doesn't, and which demographic can benefit most, but we don't often hear it from media experts.

From recent CDC data and anecdotal accounts also confirmed by an ex-pat cousin living in Italy:

Wasn't it pointed out early on that COVID causes alveolar bleeding? Or some sort of damage to them which decreased O2 exchange?

Not sure what the colors are showing since there is no legend, but yes it is more impactful to those over 65, as are most diseases that have a widespread impact.

Georgia's stats site for Covid is interesting as it lets you do some of your own cuts, or even download the raw data.

While yes, the severe impact grows as you age, just as interesting is the number of cases, where the majority are under 50, which means they were "spreaders", and why vaccination will make a difference in that group.
