DIY - Fix your Rear Deck "popping/clicking/tapping/ticking" noise.

I will suggest grease instead of WD40.

Lithium grease stay forever compare to WD40 who can run out...

I agree that grease is preferable, but used WD40 since I already had it on hand. Creaks are gone for last 6 months. I suspect that just "cracking" the welds may make noise go away on its own.

Yes you have probably reason, only cracking spot welds will fix the problem.

I do agree that anyone incapable of using sealants without making a mess, should not use sealants.
I understand the properties of WD40 and it's original intended use as more of a degreasing/water displacement agent. This isn't exactly a high friction rubbing area and there aren't any moving parts, so to speak. I recommend using a spray grease if you have some on hand, but i personally believe that WD40 is adequate for this application.

Something to consider...

I've put this on the "other" rear deck noise thread...

I've been having the same type of noise and it ended up being a trunk latch mechanism that was adjusted and then the noise when away. Before the dealership figured this out, I would have bet money that the noise was coming from the rear deck. So... if you're experiencing the "noise," it might be worth having the latch checked out before tearing apart your rear deck and doing all the gyrations mentioned.

This is a great guide. Wonderful pictures of where the places to crack are.

Just as a note from my experience when I put dampening all over the rear deck, the spot that made the biggest difference was actually inside the break light housing on the deck.

I popped it open and laid out some thin dampening (although any kind of spacing material would work) in order to get rid of that wiggle room. The plastic housing just isn't that well made on its own.

I have maybe forget some places to crack but anyway, just crack each spots you can find...

No more sound a year later...

Can someone explain the sound it makes? Would this help with rattle from bass? I already put weather strip between thirds brake light and window...

The bass rattle is an easy fix. Take off door panel and put double sided tape between window switch panel and door (where screw holes are), speaker guard and door, and between the window switch box and the box it sits in (wherever necessary to remove rattle between switches and box). Takes care of most of it.

I don't think any rattle is coming from brake light and window. There are clicks from the rear deck, but that can be fixed by using a lubricant and "cracking" the welded panel joints from the trunk. You're only applying about a hands weight to the panel, just enough to here the crackling noise. Not yield material or breaking welds.

Thanks. Rattle is definitely coming from that area
